That's what I figured. I was like...um...yeah. Relative keys share the same key signature, and two major scales dont' do that...
i'll take some help/ideas/tips on lead, sclone. i really could use some good literature on the subject... right now i just use pentatonic minor and a little bit of diatonic... and i'm more or less just doing it by ear/feeling which isn't getting me too far, if you couldn't tell. BUT - to say that the solo shouldn't have even been tried/recorded is silly. we've all got to start somewhere.
I wasn't saying not to try and practice leads, but at this point
in time it only seemed to take away from the song. For the kind of
song you posted, minor pentatonic should fit perfectly. Of course you
can do alot more as you said a major scale (or even mixolydian), but the minor pentatonic is a great place to start.

And when it comes to what key the song is in you definetly want to
solo in the same key. As far as relative minor or major is concerned,
is the song in G major or G minor? It's almost true that the relative major
is B, B flat to be more exact, but anyway stick with G minor pentatonic
for now. No need to make this any more complicated that it needs to be at this point.

What you need to do is really hammer out the basics.
Pay attention to finger placement, make sure no notes are buzzing. Start breaking your playing down piece by piece. Look at your vibrato and bends, make sure they stay in tune. I can't explain how important these
things are to a good sounding lead. You can play all the notes in the world but one out of tune bend will ruin everything. And PRACTICE that Pentatonic scale. Practice it all over the fretboard. Unlike a piano, scales and shapes on the guitar can be played all over the neck, resulting of course in different keys. So, play that scale back and forth back and forth until you can't play it any longer and then start mixing up a few notes here and there. Of course a solo is not the scale played back and forth but before we can speak we need to learn a few words. I'm not joking when I say you need to play that one scale until it becomes a part of you. I remember when I first learned the minor pentatonic scale, and how I religiously played it day after day and now for years. It works, and I'll help by tabbing out the original scale, as well as some different ways that I play it, and some licks for you to practice. What would be cool is if I could see you play. If you have a webcam or anything that you can record yourself playing I can watch it and in return record a responce with some things to fix as well as examples of all the above. Take what you will from this and let me know.

I'm not some guitar expert, but I think I can help you if you want to put forth the time and effort.

Other stuff as in lead licks and riffs for the guitar?

Just tell me what exactly you are looking for.

licks and riffs for lead would be nice. And maybe any exercises that should help finger speed and reach and stuff.

Instead of boring exercises, I believe that learning songs that are in the style you want is much more effective. But don't only learn the songs, try to understand them too. I personally find that's what works for me, because I get bored after a half hour of exercises, at most.

Yeah, but its hard to find good lead tabs on the interwebs nowadays, and scales really are useful for starting to get a feel of where to move.

Don't forget that scales are only useful if you know how to use them. Too many times I hear guitar players say "Yeah, I know some scales." but they are meaningless unless they can be used to an advantage. Transcribing licks, or entire solos is a great thing to do. Once you know it, and learn it in different keys, it's added to your soloing vocabulary and you can use it whenever you like.

i just listed both to demonstrate that i tried everything.. but yes, i did miscount when i said B and not Bb... -_- how embarassing.

so just practice more... i mean, i DO know pentatonic minor up and down the fretboard, but my (left hand) accuracy probably isn't as good as it should be. yeah. practice practice practice.

That song sounds so familiar. I like it.

Nice ending part also. Almost sounds like

something Z. Condon would have sung on Gulag Orkestar.

A little more work on vocals and it would be great.

An original song by yours truly, everything recorded with my shitty microphone, shitty amp, and SEXY telecaster. And my voice obviously.

Enjoy, comments and such are welcome (and saught-after)

Wow, I actually like it a lot. I truly got enjoyment out of listening to it and listened a second time. And the fact that it's an original song makes it way more impressive. I don't know much about music, but it all seems like it's together, you know? Probably not, I don't even know exactly what I'm trying to say. Nice job, anyway. You get a thumbs up from me, whatever that means.

I like your voice. :)

Haha, thanks. :) I actually wish my voice were better. I was kinda stuffed up today, so it took like six takes to get a vocal track that I was satisfied with. D: Overall, this took a few hours each day for the past three or four days to record.
