After listening to GNB/Going Steady, I kind of like them. I do find it a little annoying how a lot of the songs start with a loud buzz and screaming, but they have some kick ass songs. I love "Baby baby", just everything about that song is great and Going Steady's "Grapefruit Moon".

GNB is cool. I love their sound.
The thing about punk is that it was capitalized at the moment it came out. I don't think punk ever had a diffentive sound, nor was their an intention. Punk and punk rock music is whatever you wanted it to be. That was the beauty of it. Punk was always intended to be a message. That of course being against the accepted norms of society. I believe that this is what the core of punk was and is supposed to be. Like I said, punk was about a message that people were trying to tell the world. It just so happens that many people embraced the political side of life and thus the rest of the world associated it with punk. Of course, there should have never been any standards for it. Unforuately, places such as the London Underground and CBGB did the opposite of that.
If you look into the history of the Sex Pistols, Malcolm McLauren had wanted to start a band with that specific image of punk that most of us are used today. This of course happend after he witnessed a performance by the Ramones. After browsing through a book that chronicles the history of punk both in the US and in the UK, from the prespective of the Clash, Sex Pistols and Ramones (there were other bands just as famous mentioned extensively in this book. "Punk" is the name of the book), I think that to a certain extent, they achieved a society of that one would consider punk because it did not follow the norms. I however thought the book to be nieve because if you wanted to make a book about the punk movement, you would have to include the entire punk movement and not just focus on those bands that I just listed.
While it may just sound like mindless ranting to you, listen to the song in my sig. The image is the actual lyrics to the song. But here is a link to them anyway: http://www.plyrics.com/lyrics/crass/punkisdead.html
I'd write more, but I have work. Ugh!

As the western world's leading Ging Nang Boyz fanatic, I thought I should chip in my 2 cents.
heh. I see why people wouldn't like them. And why they would. SO IT'S ALL FINE WITH ME.
I can totally also see many reasons why people would or wouldn't like the GNB. They're incredibly abrasive, loud, and even obnoxious. In fact, if you play the GNB albums side by side with any other records, they will literally be twice as loud. It's actually a lot like any given Guitar Wolf record, or The Stooges' "Raw Power".
However, hella loud production does not equal bad songwriting. If anything, it seems to me that people give Guitar Wolf a great deal of free reign to write the same song 20 times because they're so crazy, but can't handle a handful of wild songs from GNB, whose repertoire is quite a bit more varied and balanced in my opinion.
I think that the recording quality of their albums reflects perfectly what the GNB sound like live, which can be seen as a doubly complimentary take on their recordings, and their live performances.

Other then their production and possibly their attitude, I don't think there are that many parallels to draw between Guitar Wolf and GNB.
While not polar opposites, their respective approaches to punk music are pretty different.
It's not the "garageness"; I'm just not a fan of gnb-style, melodic punk. But, I agree with you when it comes to guitar wolf. If you've heard one or two songs, you've heard them all. For variety, attitude, and good rock sensibilities, I turn to the king brothers. I'll take them any day of the week.

I've been listening to Going Steady aka When GNB were good. Sakura no Uta rocks my world. "Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru" is plain awesome. There's even the little Bach "Jesu, Joy of man's desire" thing near the end. However, GNB killed that song.

Go and watch the music video for Skool Kill if you haven't already, it's gotta be the funniest PV I have ever seen, holy shit!! That's like a typical day for me...have a girl break a bottle over my head, and then trash my own place. Great stuff.
Enjyo Kousai is good too, btw...

Yes it is.
Anyone else think Yoru Ouji to Tsuki no Hime sounds exactly like old Weezer?

Yeah, it does.
BTW I just learned today that apparently the lead singer (forget his name) pulled his pants down and exposed himself at the end of an outdoor concert once. heh.

It's some variation of a Ric 381. Perhaps vintage, as that model was only recently reissued.
