Dude, I got my hands on some recordings from the late seventies to 1980 and that shit was wayyy ahead of it's day. Besides eddie, there was pretty much only blues players and i don't remember anybody using double bass way back when.

I think metal is really lame. Metal drummers are particularly lame. Many of them have shit-tons of speed, but not a bit of technique to back it up. Lars Whatsit from Metalica gets all kinds of praise from metal-folk, but his time is absolutely terrible. Double bass also has no place in rock music whatsoever, and many double bass metal drummers are doing things that a REAL good drummer could do with one pedal.
