Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
So why not make something completely unique? I think mare is being a bit direct in his criticisim, but some of it does ring true. Leo Fender developed a utilitarian instrument when he concieved the Telecaster, one that had beauty in it's simplicity. He was making a guitar for the working musician, and you can't expect everyone to react the same when you take that idea and toss it a blender with some other ideas that don't really go together. Point being, if you're going to make a Telecaster.... make a Telecaster. But if you want to do your own thing, then come up with something completely unique and original, with design elements that flow together instead of contrasting.
My original idea was to make an exact copy of Manabe's cream thinline tele, but I had an opportunity to change some things I did not like so I did them. Alan you really are one of the wackiest people I have ever meet. It is a hilarious trip talking with you. I posted that little picture because you act like if your opinion is law. Do you understand that your opinion is not fact, and is worth nothing? I am not trying to insult you, but calm down. A few people on IM did not like my guitar design, a few dozen other people like it, majority rules. Design sticks unless someone orders an exact tele copy which I can do. Check this out, http://www.tylerguitars.com/p-40-mongoose-special.aspx I used to work for this guy. One day I called this Mongoose a tele, he nearly fired me on the spot just for that.

Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
I'm calm, and have been mostly posting inflammatory things in an attempt to draw out your insult at having your guitar design "dissed" on, which you seem to have finally gotten over. Sounds like we can be cool now. Also, I'm glad I'm a "trip" to talk with. Also also, that guitar is just as bad in its own way. Les Paul with a weird headstock trying to be a Tele? Ugh. Shouldn't be hard to make prettier guitars than that, I'm sure you can outshine that guy. I'm going to bed.

Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
Pretty sure Mare's one of the most down to earth people out there. BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SUCH A TRIP MAN.

Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
i have no problem with the finish. that headstock however is a sin, and the pickguard is too.

Re: 2011 NAP tour media
Well, shit. Now I know specifically what Telecaster to purchase next. I was leaning towards a standard thinline reissue with the natural wood color, but now I have a boner for that gold-on-white.
i agree, not to mention the binding and neck are simply gorgeous--i'd consider selling drugs for this guitar at the moment~ i have one of the standard reissues and have to say that it's a pretty great guitar at its price point. the stock pickups are just different enough to distinguish from a standard tele but still retain that tele "vibe." the finish on that custom setup is mostly inoffensive to me (though it would look nicer on just about any other body type), but the pickguard and headstock are definitely missing the tele "spirit"
