what the hell do you mean, "not influential at all"?! >_<
how the hell do they get a shatload of fricking fans in america, all of their own accord at seeing a show and hearing the music in the background, if they aren't influential?! GAWD!

No, I'm serious here. The Pillows have not influenced a single notable band. The Pixies influenced The Pillows. Radiohead influenced The Pillows. The Cure influenced The Pillwos. The Pillows, so far, have influenced no one. Just because people like a band doesn't mean that they are important to rock music as a whole.

I wouldn't say that the Pillows haven't influenced anyone, but the notion of putting them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is absurd. I wouldn't want them in there anyway. Fuck prestige.

whoa! we posted at the same time! that's crazy!
Let's stop the talk about fools. So-and-So is right-- this thread is going down the crapper of *puffs out chest* WHO'S A MAN... or not.
It's the internet, so let's chill.
Oh and other so-and-so.. I was just thinking that-- that we honestly don't have anything better to talk about than our own opinions. I guess it all makes sense, though. Here we are. We go about our daily human tasks, and, realisticly, all we have is ourselves. Our opinions are a big part of that. Even our caring actions are for ourselves. To see the outsome is to be fullfilled and what not beter than self-satisfaction?
But really, I'm just ranting... not really going anywhere here, so I'll just put it plain and simple... I don't think any less of any of you, so why fight for it? For symbolism? Forget that. To call one another fools? For what? And do we really know each other? Can we really have anything to show for anything? Not really. If I'm right with the peace thing...enforce it, grasshoppers.
But really, it's all good. If the world's as bad as we say it is... make it better in the little ways...
There isn't a fool on the planet who can say otherwise! (HAH... I'm clever.)
Now back to the hall of fame....

i agree with tuffghost, too.
although i think they can be called kind of influencing if you look at their fans. maybe they 'influenced' lots of ppl all around the globe to take out their guitar/bass/whatever and practice playing or to try to write some songs themselves. but if you see it that way, you could call every single shitty band out there "influencing" which doesn't do the word "influence" justice.
i surely wouldn't give them a place in the hall of fame of rock ''n" roll, because as tuffghost already said: which great band did thy influence? exactly. none so far.

Percy Sledge.
Yeah. One hit wonders. roflolmao
I wouldn't call writing one shitty song influencing a bunch of great bands, but whatever. Also, who is influenced by U2? I'm not saying there aren't any U2-influenced acts, but I can't think of any.

Percy Sledge was not a one hit wonder. I won't argue that he will be remembered primarily for "When a Man loves a Woman" (reason enough to be remembered), but "Warm and Tender Love", and "It Tears Me Up" were hits. There are others that I'm probably not aware of. Sledge isn't a shitty artist; he produced a couple really good records and was a great R&B and soul artist. My knowledge of soul is limited, but from what I've heard his later albums were very popular among southern soul fans. I?m not saying he was the best in his genre, but he definitely deserved to be inducted. As for U2... well they suck.

Perfect. Now learn guitar and become a blues musician.
Or emo.

I still don't think U2 beats Percy Sledge. I don't even listen to Percy Sledge that much (relativley new to soul), but U2 just dosn't do it for me.
You have to admit though: Bono's sunglasses make him look really alternative and rebelliously cool.

I definitely admit that Bono's whole persona bothers me. It's all about the Edge, anyway. He has a very cool guitar sound.
Now, talk about looking like an ass, Percy Sledge flosses his front teeth with a guitar cable.

Edit: Yeah, that picture about sums him up. Notice the title of his best-of album.
