i listened to ivy today, so i'm changing my vote from 6 colors to ivy. also, kozu i'm downloading it.
Nice. So you don't have 6 Colors? Do you want the whole album/EP/whatever it is? Go to Jomei's Fuzz hill forum. ivy is a great instrumental—the lack of lyrics would make it not work for this project, I think, but good vote anyway.

the band apart - Headlight Is Destroyed
This song or really anything from the alfred and cavity album would be perfect for showing some great guitar and bass work. Downside is that the vocals are pretty boring and all their songs are in Engrish. The pronunciation and grammar really isn't too horrible, but it could still be distracting.
DOWNLOADING NOW (I still only have Stereo, from whoever put up the link for that in his sig)
I must get in as many slsk downloads as possible before I leave for college in 9 hours.

Hell, I use soulseek at college all the time. You just have to not upload with it, but you can do it via yousendit/megaupload/aim/whatever else.

It's blocked for me. I can't even connect to it. You're lucky.

well he said he kinda like the blusey harder rock stuff right? well i know these guys aren't exactly "bluesy" but, i'd still consider them hard rock. that band would be X-Japan. i think they've got pretty much all the requirements your friend listed, so maybe they'd be worth a shot

X-Japan is more visual kei than hard rock. They were the first band from Japan I couldn't get into (the others are eX-Girl & T.M. Revolution).
Two good hard rock bands I can think of off-hand are the Emeralds (with their speedy lyrics) and detroit7 (1Love is a cool album to start off with; and their rendition of "Rape Me" gives the song a whole new meaning!).

Soulseek is blocked at my school, too, which sucks horribly. It actually used to work, but I accidentally allowed people access to all of my music; the fuzz must have caught on from all the people downloading from me. I wish I could go back in time and warn myself.
or at least on-par with American/European rock.
On par is fine. Superior, no.

I was using bittorrent for a while to get GTO Live Action. The day after it finished d/ling (took 3 days, there weren't that many seeders...the best the speed got was 24 D: ) I got an email saying that my computer was "behaving in a way that is disruptive to the network" because it was sending out too many packets. I removed bittorrent...no word of trouble yet, but I was afraid I was gonna get raepd for it.

You only need three reasons: tits, sushi, and phallic geography.
Oh and the music's good too I guess.
It is a different version, from the one on The Gravity Theif. It's a demo from 1994, which they released in 1999 on that "mini best album", along with acoustics and lives and such. Every file-sharing program, except for DC++, as far as I know, is blocked here. We have an internal DC++ hub being run on the network, but you've got to be careful of that, because you can't upload or download more than 5ish GB a day (or Network Operations will warn you or take action in some way). I can't remember exactly. And that's not really even allowed...we've had them shut down before. Anyway, there's like 20 something TB of stuff on it, and you can get just about any music or video you could want in seconds...except foreign and/or obscure music, though you might get lucky. Usually, the only Japanese music is from animes.

As far as bluesy, hard songs go, I was going through my playlist, and I was listening to "GNB - Ano ko ha Ayanami Rei ga Suki" and I think it deserves consideration.
