there is actually one thing that should worry you about the ipod: the hard drive itself.

Anyway, I've only known 1 person who had a HD error with their iPod, and it was because they threw it. And Apple sent him a postage paid box to mail the iPod to them, and then sent him a completely new one. So that's not really a problem.
Also, chiteau16, and iPod IS an MP3 player...

He's not a happy camper. And he's really hard-core.
That guy who wrote that site page remindes me of this kid in my algebra class who wears an Iron maiden t-shirt (who wasn't even born in the right generation to get to listen to their repedative crap) sits there with his unshaven, dirty, short beard and copies Garfield comics while this one guy tells him what a good artist he is. *twitch*
Anyway, I like U2 and everything, but the U2 iPod was a little much.

yes an iPod is an MP3 player...but it is also an AAC, Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF player...i was talking about all the other electronic devices that play only MP3s, have a small amount of memory, and cost a lot less than an iPod...

Yes, but these other "MP3 players" often also play not only .mp3, but .ogg, .aac, .m4a, etc. "MP3 player" is really just a catch-all term for any digital music players because, let's face it, almost all anyone uses is MP3.
I think what you're trying to differentiate between are high-capacity hard-drive-based digital music players and low-capacity flash-based digital music players.
The only thing that makes me sad is that the iPod doesn't support .ogg.

I want an Ipod badly too. I have Itunes and have about 800 songs on it. I've saved about 200 dollars but im 14 and cant get a job, so im saving random cash.
As for them breaking, i know 2 people who had their Ipod break, and yes, Apple will send a new one but then you lose all your songs on the Itunes. and if something has happened to your computer before it broke, then your gonna have to reload all the songs since there isnt a way anymore to put songs from your Ipod to the Itunes.
As for me, i will probably get an Ipod before i move to Japan this summer. If I put songs on it, then in Japan i just plug my Ipod in the computer to listen while being on the computer. But, i wouldnt be able to put the songs on the Itunes. So then if my Ipod breaks, im screwed.

It isn't impossible to get songs off your ipod onto itunes. Apple just decided to omit any features that would allow you to import music files directly into itunes. They did this to make music piracy inconvenient (nice try), and to prevent themselves from being harassed by the recording industry. It is actually quite possible to upload files from your ipod onto itunes. You need to get a utility to do this. Most are free and easy to operate. You just open the program and plug in your ipod, and your music files will be uploaded to itunes.
Here are two that I use:

whoa. Thanks alot. There used to be a way to do it without downloading everything. But Apple set it so if you download Itunes now you cant do it.
