I don't see how you could get any smaller. Unless you bend slightly. But that's only on guitar.

Lots of Asian music (India, Vietnam, probably others) use quarter tones. Also, some countries (Cambodia, more) divide their tones up differently, making things sound out of tune to Western ears.
