Re: Pillows Tribute Album Sign-Ups
You're being a bit vague here. Please elaborate and explain in detail.
Are you suggesting that we should collaborate when covering songs (as in no one person should cover a song alone) or are you saying that I don't qualify as part of the IM community or what? I am utterly confused.
I'd like to sign up to play lead in Skeleton Liar.
One more thing, as easy as it might be, seeing as this is IM, don't you guys think we should probably play Instant Music, too? Just something that crossed my mind.
Whoa, sorry I missed that. I see how this works. So, in that case, would be ok if record/submited a song that's not on the list? It wouldn't be stealing anyone's oppurtunity and It def woudn't hurt to have more songs, right?
Way to have been active in planning this. Have Instant Music done by, well, Instant Music. A big group one.
Lol, are you thinking of doing some big "we are the world" crap? That would be hilarious and epic.

@norbert: yes, very much so. @itaffy: NO U. Seriously, it'd be a fun/silly/awesome way to close a tribute album, and I'm sure the pillows would get a kick out of it.

Just throwing this out there, for whenever the project picks up steam again: if you need another drummer, I'd be interested in contributing to this tribute album.

Yes, yes, yes, and very much yes. Drummers are what we're really lacking here...we have no end of guitarists.

Re: Pillows Tribute Album Sign-Ups
that's because there isn't a drum kit to be seen in FLCL.

We need a drummer that knows how and is capable of recording drums. However, I know a decent way to record drums that requires only two dynamic microphones.

Well, sorry then, I guess. I don't own any decent recording equipment, and I don't really have the money to purchase some. I might be able to bum a few microphones off of some friends, but that's about it.
As for knowledge…I've had my drumming recorded in a studio several times, so I am roughly aware of the basics (i.e. setting up close and overhead mics). If that counts for anything, that is.

Re: Pillows Tribute Album Sign-Ups
Well, I think it's awesome that you're willing to drum for us...but our project kinda requires you to get that drumming into an audio track on a computer, unfortunately. While it ordinarily takes a thousand microphones to record drums with any degree of usefulness, this setup allows you to record drums adequately with only two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiFOD1EeKhQ

Interesting, I never would have thought a drum kit could be recorded with just overhead microphones. (Side note: not all of the pros use an inordinate number of mics to record drums.)
Anyways, I can record my drums and get the audio onto a computer without a problem. I guess I should have said that I don't own any good microphones (or any kind of decent recording gear at all, for that matter, so I guess good microphones are out of the question). All I have are a few shitty camcorder/webcam mics. I could experiment with setting up these in various positions, but either way, the quality is probably going to be pretty bad.
If you guys are okay with that…well, that's great. If not, then I guess I won't be able to contribute after all.

Re: Pillows Tribute Album Sign-Ups
Well, I don't know...obviously, the audio has to be usable...but I think there's a lot of leeway with percussion. It really comes down to this: a lot of us can sequence MIDI drums, so if you can get us some drums that are almost as good - there's really nothing like drums played by an actual human, and we really want as many IMers in the credits as possible.
