Tifa's theme and Those Who Fight were fucking huge on that album.


Just started listening to the FFVIII Piano Collection, I get all misty eyed when The Oath Starts playing. Ah, nostalgia.

While we're on the topic of Final Fantasy, which one do you think has the best music? Not in terms of piano collections, just raw OST.

I would probably say IX, but VIII and VII and VI are way up there too. Also I think V is very underrated.

Those would pretty much be my main choices, I'd say IV had better music than V, on the whole.

IV has some really good tracks, I guess I'm just biased because I think IV is a really bad FF overall.

XII has my least favorite soundtrack though. I'm surprised so many people like it.

Memories of life is a lot better than eyes on me. SERIOUSLY. I heard that eyes on me was good. That's one of the reasons why I kept playing FF8. When i listened to it, I was so disappointed it. It sucked!

IV was fucking amazing, Eyes on Me was fucking beautiful.

No, IV is very badly railroaded (you're stuck with whatever party they throw at you for the entire game), melodramatic (and ineffective melodrama at that, killing off characters and then bringing Disney-style is so retarded), humorless (inb4 omg spoony bard!!!), and incredibly overrated. It does have some great music though, don't get me wrong; I was just saying I was biased because I dislike the game. The main boss battle in particular is one of the best, and the main theme is awesome too.

XII has some pretty boring shit on its soundtrack, I admit. And then a lot of the songs are too short. I still remember the dread of walking 9999 miles across the overworld with a 50 second song looping the entire damn time.

It did have some awesome songs though. The boss battle theme and the Estersand theme were awesome, for example.

FFIX was my favorite game, and features some of my favorite music - but FFVII was just a legendary game with legendary music. If I had to make some objective assessment of "the best," it'll always be FFVII, no matter what we're measuring.

As far as vocal pieces are concerned, I think that "Eyes on Me" was disastrous, but both "Melodies of Life" and "Suteki Da Ne" were utterly brilliant. Beyond comprehension.

I never liked 'Melodies of Life' very much.

But it's better than this thing from XIII. I don't think it was even written specifically for the game.

It's hard to say which is best, I loved the music from 4-8.

The thing is, as much as I like VII's soundtrack (and I do love it), it doesn't have the kind of synergy that IX does. The use of themes in IX is crazy; for instance, Nobuo works the "love theme" of the game so subtly into different tracks it's amazing. The variation of character themes is awesome too, like Kuja's. FFVII is probably second overall though.

Melodies of Life is a huge weeper for me, I can't listen to it without getting misty-eyed.

Best final boss theme is The Extreme from FFVIII.
Best regular boss theme is The Decisive Battle from FFVI.
Best regular battle theme is Battle from FFX.
Best misc. battle theme is Hunter's Chance from FFIX.

Also Tidus I have no idea what you're smoking, the FFXII battle theme is a POS too. Completely unremarkable, sounds like it should belong in a different game.
