 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
I don't know why you would get flack for that. Worldx3 was a great return to form and a really solid album. Sol-Fa is my personal favorite, but I like all their stuff, though to varying degrees.

Personally, I can't listen to anything they release before Sol-Fa... It all sounds like crap. However, Sol-Fa is also my favorite album... it the second half is flawless, and the first half is very good as well.
Funclub has good songs, but is a bit awkward. World World World is decent.

Pretty much my opinion, except that I think you're seriously underrating the work before Sol-Fa. Give it another chance, there's some damn good songs there that you're missing out on.

They all sound dull and uninteresting... any songs in particular you have in mind? I keep diving in and coming up empty handed.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
For me, AKGF usually has a pretty bland intro and generic verses (imo of course), but they most always have a killer chorus and bridge that force me to keep listening to the song. A prime example of this is 'Mafuyu no Dance' off of Fanclub.

I can understand Houkai Amplifier being a weak hit for you other than haruka kanata, but there's no excuse not to love Kimi Tsunagi 5 M.

Ah!
Haruka Kanata. That was the first song I heard by them because of Naruto (the other was Rewrite from FMA). That was back in my avid anime-watching days. I always loved Haruka Kanata, but I haven't listened to it recently.
Alright, I'll give them a play tomorrow at school.

Word, let me know how it goes.
You should do a piano arrangement of an AKG song sometime.

Maybe I'll dig up the music and play them through a bit, haha. If I remember correctly, the transcriptions for Rewrite was pretty meh, but I had to do Haruka Kanata for TWO PIANOS! It sounds awesome.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
I was thinking that Blue Train, kimi no machi made, or any of their other more downkey songs would sound great on piano/strings.

Generally, it's the more melodic, slower songs that work well on the piano, so I'm inclined to agree with you on that one. I'll have to finish arrange Ameagari ni mita Maboroshi first, but it would be a good change of pace to arrange non-pillows songs as well.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
One of the students from the movie making course suddenly piped up about AKG about a week ago... Just out of the blue he exclaims that he likes these "japanese rock guys". I don't know what songs he knows of theirs but I'm willing to guess it's the typical entry point stuff. I might as well ask him if he'd like a mix cd or something.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y0AuSJGGP8I'm really hoping that this is them re-inventing themselves, because the sound in this song is better than any single since Blue Train. I'm calling this as my favorite comeback of late in the Japanese rock scene. Worldx3 was pretty good, but its strength was more in album pacing/flow rather than individual track strength, and Surf bungaku was just kind of bland and unmemorable. So yeah, high expectations for this.
