I'm not sure where you are getting this stuff. There are plenty of American pop/rock bands that use major keys. There's Apples in Stereo, Beulah, Danielson Famile, The Pixies, The Breeders, Spoon, Built to Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Decemberists, Destroyer, Elf Power, Guided by Voices, Half-Handed Cloud, The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montral, The Olivia Tremor Control, Pavement, The Pillbugs, The Shins, The Strokes and Ted Leo. And that's just things I could name from glancing at my iTunes library. Not to mention bands from other English speaking countries like Canada, England and Belgium.

Well shit, there goes my argument. I still stand by my opinion that the pillows and Weezer do sound slightly similar.

Hmmm. I don't think so but I wouldn't swear to it. Pavement's first album did, however, do a lot to shape pop rock and indie rock as we know them today.

pavement's music being similar to rooney's.
then i thought, dang - robert schwartzman is in both these bands.
super fast forward, i realize & conclude that it's not a likely factor to determine similarity...
