So you hate Blues and Punk.
Any more of my favorite genres you'd like to add to your hate list?
i just plain don't like you. modship has ruined you. i know others agree, because we've talked about it.
my interest in music has taken me away from the simple power chord, minor pentatonic bull shit to more advanced and musically interesting artists. punk is quite possibly the worst genre out there. some blues is all right because it involves a lot of improvising. but it gets soooooooooooo boring. wow you can bend. do something different.
blues is also like old people emo.
"i got the blues. my girl left me, feel like i'm bein' used."
that's like blues lyrics. i just made that up though, but old hillbilly blues is like that. at least from what i've heard.

You, sir, need to get the Television album Marquee Moon. That is a punk album with two of the best guitarists rock music has churned out in the past 40 years.
You also need to listen to a Gary Davis album. His guitar technique and chord voicing is completely unique to his own playing, and he sure as hell isn't making "old people emo."
In fact, the idea that blues is "old people emo" is fucking retarded. The reason (other then the fact that the conventions of the genre make for shitty music) that emo sucks is because it's a bunch of rich whiny assholes singing about problems they don't have. Most blues musicians did have real problems, and are thus allowed to make music about them. If you were black and living in the South in the 1930's, you probably wouldn't make the happiest music in the world either.

That's true but even if it weren’t, it wouldn’t excuse Stevens ignorant comparison. Blues isn't by far "old person emo". While blues does speak to the suffering and pain that was a shared experience among blacks in America, much of it was celebratory in nature. Blues was one of the first forms of American popular music. It was played at bars and juke joints. Subjects included parties, regional histories, dancing, biblical retellings, and elaborate fables. Only someone who was unfamiliar with blues would think it was as tired and repetitive as emo.

GOOD punk can use 2 chords and convey a million times more feeling than anything yngwie's ever written.. who cares if its technically boring, music isnt supposed to be a mental excercise.
