i just got this cd "live at new earth" by a band named waterdeep. the bass rocked so hard. and then at times it sounded like they were a band from the seventies. and then they sounded jazz, and then...then...

I was actaully asking Sclone about Automatic, but I'm glad you liked it . . or not.
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica
Probably the greatest album of that entire decade.

Trout Mask Replica is great, I like Safe as Milk a lot too. Ry Cooder is really good on that album.
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea is amazing and I would recommend it to anyone instantly.
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes is a good one too.
Modern Lovers - Modern Lovers is an early 70's masterpiece.
The Velvet Underground and Nico is also a great album.
The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone is really, really fun.
Man, there's too much good music around. I guess those are a few good albums to start with. Anyone who wants some sample songs can feel free to IM or PM me.

The Jesus and Mary Chain- PsychoCandy
The Jesus and Mary Chain- Darklands
Have you listened to Automatic yet? If you did, what did you think of it? Just curious. I'm not sure why, but I find myself almost reaching to point of withdrawal when I stop listening to Automatic - much like when I first heard the Pixies.
Not so much Psycho or Darklands, though. They're great albums, but there's something about Automatic that just stays in my head for a very, very long time.
Yes, I have heard Automatic.
I know it's so unpopular to put anything above Psycho Candy, but I agree that this album is amazing. For some reason people got pissed that they ditched most of the feedback for 'Darklands', which is my current favorite. And this album was really looked down on because of the more "polished" sound. Well screw the critics, I loved this album. Obviously Head On is an amazing song, Frank Black sure thought so. Although I really liked Blues from a Gun. In my opnion, this was one of their strongest albums. Great pop melodies that you can't help but love, with just a little snearing punk twist. It's perfect music if you ask me.
Sadly they never got any better than this. I remember liking a few tracks from Honeys Dead, but it's no 'Automatic'.

I would recommend Aeroplane to anyone who has ears, period. I hesitated on purchasing the album because people were complaning about the vocals, but it matches so damn well with the lyrics and whatnot.

Yes, Aeroplane is awesome. On Avery Island is really good too, and even Jeff's demo tapes have some real gems. I'm a big elephant 6 fan if you can't tell.

Also, my friends have a band called Stay Behind. They're worth checking out; and I'm not just saying that because they're my friends. Here's their website: http://home.comcast.net/~staybehind/StayBehind.html
Click on the Purevolume attachment and listen to their stuff. It's actually really, really good.
