god. i fucking hate nirvana.
you know, let's elaborate on this. i will never understand all of the excitement for that band. much less the credibility they recieve as a major turning point in rock history. sonic youth made a much larger contribution to music than nirvana did. pssh...maybe someone could justify it though...i'm open to any explanation.

Nirvana didn't do anything new, but they made new sounds accessible to the general public. Sure Nirvana was pretty derivative of The Pixies, The Meat Puppets, Husker Du and others, but most of the people who heard Smells Like Teen Spirit when it was a single had never listened to any of those bands. Personally, I like Nirvana. They didn’t do anything new, but they knew how to write music.

Nirvana sucked, their cultural relevancy doesn’t make them better musicians.
I hate how a mediocre talent who was a heroin addict can be canonized by the media and a bunch of teenage malcontents.

kurt cobian is on my list of people who i wish weren't dead, which is a very closed list, mind you.
freddy mercury, elliot smith, and a girl i know who passed away of cancer at only 15 are also on this list.
nirvana did some good shit, regardless of whether or not it was original. his lyrics, when you can tell what he's saying, are typically deep... his riffs were catchy... what is there to not like? i mean, i'm not gonna bust a nut whenever i hear a nirvana song, but i think they were a pretty damn good band.
