 Re: 2011 NAP tour media
No. You can make guitars that work well all you want, but aesthetics are important. When you put smooth curves with a somewhat jagged headstock, it's incongruous. When you put on a pickguard that fails to match the curvature and aesthetics of the guitar, it's incongruous. The flame finish is a personal taste, but the rest is just fucking bad aesthetics, bro. I think 95% of people will agree, and the other 5% have a chronic case of bad taste.

I want a Gibson Reverse V candy stripe green/orange/blue finish with a red pick guard, white fret board and a carbon fiber headstock.

Like I said you are the first person in the more than two years since I designed and built the guitar to insult it. Everyone else that has seen my guitars really like my designs, and the finishes. You can state your opinion but you are pushing it Alan! Do you want me to remove the image?

 Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
Why the hell are you getting so insulted at my expression of my opinions? I'm not insulting the guitar, you're insulting Telecasters by saying that's a good look for a Tele. The entire point of the Telecaster is in its beautiful, simple shape, and your guitar design throws that out the window. I even said that the headstock and whatnot would look nice on something else, and you refuse to take that into account. I don't have to like your design, and I won't. You make a Tele that looks simple and beautiful, and I'll congratulate the fuck out of you, praise the guitar, and maybe even talk to you about purchasing a custom Tele copy off of you, but you don't seem to get what makes a Tele a Tele.
Telecasters are my favorite guitars. I love them deeply. You made something that almost looks like a Telecaster, if it had the unfortunate mistake of being born a half-breed metal instrument or something. I cannot love such a thing.
Edit: Also, I'm clearly not the only one to dislike it.

I am getting insulted because you have stated your dislike for my guitar about 5 times. Once fine, but why overstate it? What you don't seem to understand is that I did not want to make a simple tele. I made my own guitar based off of a tele body. I use that headstock design for 6 in line tuners, because I would get sued if I sold guitars with regular tele headstocks, and I like the design. I never said you must like it, I just posted a picture of it. I could have made a regular tele, but why would I have done that if I could build whatever I wanted.

So why not make something completely unique? I think mare is being a bit direct in his criticisim, but some of it does ring true. Leo Fender developed a utilitarian instrument when he concieved the Telecaster, one that had beauty in it's simplicity. He was making a guitar for the working musician, and you can't expect everyone to react the same when you take that idea and toss it a blender with some other ideas that don't really go together.
Point being, if you're going to make a Telecaster.... make a Telecaster. But if you want to do your own thing, then come up with something completely unique and original, with design elements that flow together instead of contrasting.

 Re: Guitar aesthetics thread
Let's tally this shit up. I said I don't like that finish on that guitar (1), and then elaborated to say I tend to not prefer that finish on any guitar followed by noting that I feel that it looks particularly bad/out of place on a Tele (2 I GUESS?). Then, I commented that the headstock and pickguard detract from rather than enhance the guitar's aesthetics along with a joke about the "ugly being catching" (3 but really 2). I tried to explain to you exactly WHAT makes it unappealing to me when you mocked me with a stupid image you googled up by stating that the shapes do not match up with the overall guitar aesthetics (4 but really not anything because I'm trying to expound upon my point rather than diss on your ugly guitar), and you then said I was "pushing it" by fucking explaining to you WHY I don't like it. After that, I just gave up caring and said my full opinion about the guitar, so I guess that adds up to 5 in your book, though it's really only 3 times of stating my dislike. This post makes a fourth, but I'll make one more to get it up to a nice even five if you'd really like.
Seriously, though. Stop getting offended that I think it doesn't match up. Instead, try to think about how you could better make Tele styles in the future that accurately get WHAT A TELECASTER IS ABOUT AESTHETICALLY while still being original. Getting pissed off that I don't like the finished product's overall look and then acting like a baby about "removing the image" over it is unproductive.

The most inconvenient guitar of all time award goes to... I mean, look at the strap placement.
