Garageband is awesome, but what I recommend most for anyone is to get an interface and a good microphone - and by that, I mean an SM57. Garageband is easy to use and all, but it's not going to help get the sound onto your hard drive.

Also, I second the notion that everything must be as close to perfect as possible (in a studio or studio-esque recording). It doesn't have to be mechanical, but there shouldn't be any glaring aberrations - none should be heard unless you're actively listening for them. That said, I think segmenting the audio track is especially useful, especially for vocals, where there are a lot of obvious places to segment the track.

Could you upload a non-lead track, Sheer? I'd like to play along with this.

Now, what the hell is an iLife Preview and is it useful in any way, shape, or form?

Also, I forgot to mix the rhythm guitar correctly before, so use this one if you're a vocalist:
I'm also limited by my recording environment
YES.

I had the worst recording environment while I was trying to get the vocals and video for Raiden and my contest entry.
My laptop has a built-in mic, but it's really just for skype and not quality.
In addition to that, my laptop is really junky and even running two simple programs will cause it to turn on this loud fan that sounds like a motorboat going.

Forced to find another way, I got my old video camera out and recorded video of me singing, then had to wait up to half an hour for my video to upload and process on my computer, cut out what was extra, and then see if I had a usable take. If I didn't, I had to rewind the tape and repeat the whole process.

The video was murder too, I got a bunch of good takes on my second shoot, but my camera somehow made the recording skip and pixelate. I did so many takes I practically lost my voice for a day because it'd cracked from doing the climax too many times. Then I recorded it again the next day. :dead:

I spent days working on it, and I never was fully satisfied with my voice recording.
