1) It's Asperger's. 2) It's definitely a social handicap. Like, most definitely.
The lack of demonstrated empathy is possibly the most dysfunctional aspect of Asperger syndrome. Individuals with AS experience difficulties in basic elements of social interaction, which may include a failure to develop friendships or to seek shared enjoyments or achievements with others (for example, showing others objects of interest), a lack of social or emotional reciprocity, and impaired nonverbal behaviors in areas such as eye contact, facial expression, posture, and gesture.

Re: television performances
By definition, Asperger's is a handicap. However, while some people with Asperger's are able to lead (somewhat) normal, well-adjusted lives, others are prone to failing brutally at live performances. Exactly.

It's not really about feeling though. It's about what the medical community has decided to define a condition. Opinion doesn't really come into this.

I'm sorry IM here's a live performance that conforms more to your standards. I think you'll enjoy it and hopefully it will make up for my irrational claims about what makes a respectable performance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZPsGJppfYg

Re: television performances
a friend of mine's bro has it, but until they told me he had it I just thought he just had a different personality, I didnt get along with him well because he was very tunnel visioned into what he was into and we didnt share any common ground. in interaction though, he's just different and a person I cant find common ground with. But I find once we label the flaws as disorders and handicaps is when people start looking at people differently. Reading up on mental disorders, to me alot of them are just explaining flaws in people and labeling them disorders and handicaps. (especially personality disorders) Which provides closed-minded people with a safety blanket in terms of acceptance so they can accept them as someone with a handicap rather than someone that is simply different. but I digress. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exDRVQA7o1Yterritorial pissings is becoming my favorite nirvana song ever.

Oh gosh, all this time I thought that something was actually wrong with these people! However, now that I've read your professional scientific opinion that they are all perfectly normal people with minor "personality twists," I feel obligated to take a trip down to Princeton to inform John Forbes Nash that his schizophrenia is just a peccadillo. Have you published your findings in the JAMA yet? I bet we could extend your theory onto other "flaws," such as MS, ALS, and AIDS.
