a thread for SUPERCAR
supercar are one of my favourite band of all times.
my favourite song is voice, followed by songs on
on high vision, futurama and sunday people (that featured seven front, one of the best b-side tracks of ever!)
free your soul and yumeigawa last boy <3 yumeigawa was one of my first songs and there's something i really adore about this track - it's danceability, or how koji nakamura (vo/g) and miki furukawa (vo/b) combined their voices - their duo's (lucky!!!) are a great attribute of supercar's, and i wish their newer songs hadn't pushed miki as just a background vocalist. miki's voice is lovable on every song she does vocals on. ;D
koji's voice is dreamy and subtle while miki's is chirpy and high-pitched - and when they combine them, they produce an amazing wave of "supercar noise"; inventive, enjoyable and with a hint of melancholy, which junji ishiwatari (g) provides as lyrics to their songs and, for catchy tunes, kodai tazawa (d) who's drumming away (as a crazily amazing drummer!)
free your soul and yumeigawa are prefect tracks for a film like ping pong, because they pace incredibly with the movie as it progresses and the characters of peco and smile.
supercar are one of the first bands that i've heard combine classical indian instruments (the tabla and sitar), and they tend to fuse a variety of sound and music into their songs - from an upbeat three out changes to a more electronica based high vision.
seeing their videos is a must-should. they're weirdly funny and enlightening.
(they've split - are going to split next month? ;_;)

i think a number of traditional indian instruments sound similar to their east asian counterparts, thereby music-wise south asia and east asia share much in common.
the pakistani qawwali singer, nusrat fateh ali khan, who died in 1997, also had a fanbase in japan; where he won a lifetime achievement award.

i got into supercar when i saw the movie ping pong. i was like...wow. this music is cool. and the guy whose owned the movie (a japanese teacher that goes to the same church as me XD) told me about supercar. kaneda then got some songs and i liberated them from him. thus my desire for more began.
so yeah. i'll try and get some then. and thanks for the cool links!
