I love Amnesiac. It's amazing how they don't use as much "guitar twang" as their previous stuff and more electronica (I was surprised when I listened to "Airbag" again!) I downloaded Kid A and I have yet to listen to all of it on my computer, but some favorites are "the National Anthem", "Idioteque", "Treefingers", and "How to Disappear Completely".

I also bought the live album "I Might Be Wrong" at a used record store for 8 bux. I love "True Love Waits" and I want to find the studio version NOW.

I actually like this group. Mainly because my musical idol at the moment likes them. Brad Mehldau is who I believe is the best new musician that appeared in the 90's. He arranges some radiohead songs and plays them with his trio, or in any other group he forms. He is a genius. He approaches piano, and music in an entirely new way and has no trouble explaining it. Goddammit he's good.

He turned Radiohead's Exit Music (For a Film) into a jazz piece, and

completely lost the melody half way through.

I don't get it, that fragile melody is the song

Duh. It's called improvisation. The harmony is more important than the melody, and that's what jazz is, harmonic improvisation.

What the hell are you talking about?

Just by that post alone I can tell you haven't listened to MBV's 'Loveless'.

Actually, in jazz, yes it is. You can't solo over a melody. But the harmony, the changes is what the main focus of the song is. The melody happens twice in the entire song, but the harmony is constant.

That's not the point jazzmaster.

My point is that the melody of the song is better than

any amount of improvisation over the changes.

And if you listened to Loveless Zen, how the fuck can you say

there is almost no melody in those songs?

Turns out there's no studio recording of "True Love Waits". Shame.

...wait, am I interrupting something?

The melody isn't that good. It doesn't really go anywhere.

Find "Exit Music (For A Film)" off of OK COMPUTER

Listen to that song from beginning to end and then we'll talk.

I have it and have listened to it. It's a good tune, but I think more could have been done with it, had it been in the hands of a more capable musician (not necessarrily songwriter, although brad is genius when it comes to writing). But the radiohead version is great. It's probably just because I like to hear more than the same thing repeated 10 times.
