I guess we should have had her do the music for FLCL and save the pillows from "ZOMG r055 iz MAi f4v0riT3!11!!!!1!one!!11!!!!1!"

I love Jazz. In theory. What's out there that's more like Kool Spice/Living Field?

I wouldn't have discovered them if that were the case.

I thought about that when I wrote my post. I figured that eventually we would have discovered them by some other source. Be it word of mouth or just coming across it on the intarbuttz.

True, but without FLCL how popular would they be with American audiences? Even were someone to get into Japanese music, and more specifically Japanese Indie music without the influence of FLCL and The Pillows, how many other bands would be recommended before them? Especially if you were to be looking for new music at the present time, with the animosity that Penalty Life and Good Dreams causes.

I dunno.

I'm fond of Kieth Jarrett at times, ('The Wrong Blues' goes well with Cowboy Bebop's imagery, if you're a fan.), and Yoko Kanno is uniquely enjoyable. A very flexible musician, and kind of an odd story as far as how she came to be influenced into writing what she does. The Seatbelts are a very talented bunch for their various genres, especially this one. I like Ray Charles if you can count him for jazz, and Louis Armstrong is quite nice too. I'm going to have to go with Norah Jones, though, who makes me veeerrry envious as a vocalist. My jazz loyalties lie completely with her and Billie Holliday. u_u()

What else can I say? I'm a sucker for a lovely voice.
