Not if you use an equalizer. Pro Tools has something called Bomb Factory, and I'm sure other audio programs have similar things on them

Well, even if you could produce a blend of several dozen people/clips without major distortion, I don't know if the authentic feel and distinct echo of a crowd could be properly simulated in such a way. It might sound a bit too synthetic. I may be wrong, but that seems reasonable to me.

For this page of the thread:
I think the best end product to any of the songs you guys decide to make would have to stick to this procedure list:

Pre-production:

-Concrete song list
-Many tabbers tabbing tabs
-Assign members to songs

Production:

1. Record your best audio take. Use your best device for recording music, not necessarily your camcorder.
2. Send all clips someone with editing software. Clips are compiled and adjusted for best quality. (volume up, down, synch fixes, etc.) Final recorded audio is completed.
3. Record your best video take. This will be for the visual. (This is the part where Keitaro puts a shirt on. :) ) If you are using a camcorder for your audio take and it turns out amazing then by all means skip this step, but I'm assuming there are much better results that could be achieved from other recording methods.
4. Send all clips to the editor. Clips are arranged, transitions added, video is synched to the final recorded audio.

Post Production:

5. Titling credits and final tweaks.
6. Create video file and post upload link.
Unless there are a ton of people here with line-in stuff, or really good recording devices...I dunno...a decent cam/video cam's audio could be okay. For the first try, at least. We're not recording an album here.

Yeah, all i'm using to record is my cam. I mean, it's pretty good, I caught some great stuff at the DBT at the blender theater with it and it sounds really good.

I still have my sound dock in my drive bay to plug my guitar into, but it sounds like shit, any software recommendations?

Ideally, I think most of us would like near-album quality. We've all seen "just-for-fun, who-cares-if-the-audio-isn't-good" videos, and the feeling of nausea associated with them.

I definitely don't want anyone to have the impression that they shouldn't contribute if they don't have all that hax recording equipment. It will be wonderful to have every contribution coming from everyone's best efforts. But I agree with sheer that the highest quality we can achieve in terms of the recorded sound should be considered whenever possible.

What's important is that we develop familiarity with the procedures at hand and communicate our ideas early on, so that when we move out of pre-production and into production, everyone has a firm understanding of their roles as performers and collaborators.

Perhaps if some members would like to invest in additional recording equipment, there could be a topic about a basic rundown of what devices to purchase? Or perhaps just start a conversation in the gear thread... I know it's hazy for me because there seems to be alot of devices out there, and I don't really know much about the ballpark money that would be spent on such devices.

Well I'm going to use the same recorder I've been using to get the DVD rips. It's got a line-in jack, and my uncle has some good equipment, so I can get a good high quality mic to put into it. That cost me about $300 though, I don't know what cheaper ones would really be out there.

I never knew that you could just plug in your guitar or bass in the mic/input jack and use it. I just tried it out with my bass, although the quality is not "studio" quality, but it's good enough for what we would be doing.

I have the Creative xfi card that has a dock with the right jack.

I'll be using my dad's Camera, I have no idea what it is, but its a professional HD camera.
He uses it to film weddings and other family events for people, making DVD's and shit on his spare time.
It cost him like around $4,000 and $500 for a new lense. :dizzy:
It has great sound quality :groovin:
