Shot in the dark, but can you guys recommend anything similar to the bloodthirsty butchers? I've been kind of a kick with them lately, and hunger for more alternative lo fi noise punk whatever, but don't know where to start.
dinosaur jr, sebadoh, fugazi, rites of spring, sonic youth...these are just mostly bands they were influenced by, a couple of japanese bands you might like are cowpers and condor44. syrup16g can have a similar vibe to them at times, but are generally a bit more 80s alternative rock ala U2 and The Police.
My Love is one of the highlights of that album, along with Diamond Dave and Baby (imo). I didn't really like that album too much overall, though.
Haven't listened to the album thoroughly but yeah, 'Baby' was pretty good... except a couple of the lyrics are weird. 'Love letter to Japan' gets stuck in my head even though I don't like it quite as much.

We come from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands, To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

Finally discovered Manic Street Preachers. By far one of the most brilliant bands I've heard in quite some time. The Holy Bible + Everything Must Go =

Bloodthirsty Butchers. This is pretty much the only band that I've been listening to as of late. I can't get over how emotional some of their songs make me feel. Kocorono has June and July. Kouya ni Okeru has Houi and Jigoku no Rocker. Mikansei has Soradake, Poolside, Boku, and Delta Sankaku. Maybe I'm just oblivious, but the emotion portrayed in these songs is above and beyond anything else I've listened to. July: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=555fKo4t ... re=relatedTo me, Bloodthirsty Butchers is the perfect band.

Grrrrr. Just as I was about to take a shower and retire for the night, you bring to my attention this album that I had no idea even existed.
edit: Do you have the translated tracklist? As much as I like to pretend sometimes, I don't know how to read any Japanese that isn't Hiragana.

Re: Artist you're currently listening to.
It's like
Quickly, to the ocean*, reach out to the ocean**
*in Japanese **in English
this is actually a really great example of some of the clever things that Japanese rock bands are doing with loanwords, they're basically incorporating them as synonyms (lyrically they work like synonyms, meaning that it creates diversity), except they're really just the same word said differently. This one is particularly awesome because he sings "ocean" in English with two syllables, giving it the same feeling as "umi" as well.
This is the kind of shit I'm writing my Junior Independent Work about. How awesome of a topic is this shit?

Re: Artist you're currently listening to.
Amen dudes. Butchers are probably my favorite band of all time, they may have overtaken Number Girl in my mind at this point. They've got the perfect blend of noise and melody, grit and heart. They're a messy band but they do it beautifully. The tracklist is: Flanging Sun Sambun to Blues (Prose and Blues) Bokutachi no Shissou (Our Sprint) 1.2.3.4 Black Out Decadent ~I'm so tired~ Noise Youshou (Childhood) Ocean Curve The bonus track Walk On By is incredibly good and has some smokin' axework by Tabuchi. I wish the bass was mixed higher on the album and this song, though. That's the only gripe I have with it. I've been listening to these guys, Elevation, from the Atlanta area. They're slick-sounding power rock done right. I like this song, but I'm amazed at how solid and well-done throughout their album is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tna5K9-WDTA

Re: Artist you're currently listening to.
Currently listening to a lot of KAREN, Nothing's Carved in Stone, and Art-School. For some reason I suddenly like some of Art-School's music - guess I'd checked out the wrong stuff in the past. I don't like Ellegarden at all so I was very pleasantly surprised at Nothing's Carved in Stone (as well as the HIATUS, which is a similar improvement over the original band.) Karen is probably my favorite out of all of these bands, though.

I'm listening to some ART-SCHOOL right now, myself. (Winona Ryder Android, woot) They've got a new mini album coming out next month, I can't wait. Definitely one of my favorite bands.
