television performances
Every band should do this when asked to fake performing a song live for some damned tv show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3UW2kqJ9R4

Re: television performances
Hahahaha, that's good stuff. My favorite is the bassist jamming out on the bass like it's a guitar. The keyboardist waving around like he's doing a magic trick is good too.

Not a fan of MUSE but that was really refreshing and sweet. Also relevant for great TV performances. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBKm966ACdQ

Re: television performances
its much more raw and energizing than the stage presence that so many musicians suck in and choreograph. I'm sorry you think that you think he has to control himself and be a nice moderate guy playing the song the same way you've heard it 1000 times before.
oh yeah. Muse was good but Nirvana was just brutal.

He was just having an autistic spasm. If that entertains you, I am sure you would make an excellent social worker.
There are other ways to be energizing. Just look at every great live band (by general consensus) ever. None of them have autistic spasms. Coincidence?
P.S. For any musician worth his salt, a good performance entails "maximum theatrics without sacrificing performance."

Re: television performances
It wasnt just an autistic spasm. That's who he is. He's Craig Nicholls and he has asbergers. I admire him because he's a loose cannon and unpredictable. He doesnt consider his Asbergers a handicap and enjoys his antics on and off stage. They've toned down their live performances because of the negative response from people, which makes me but I guess helps them since most consumers dont take well to things they dont understand. P.S. "It's like, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that I was supposed to be getting onstage and impressing anybody," "I may be barking mad, but at least I'm no sap" -Craig Nicolls

Re: television performances
I apologize. It was a " super special Craig Nicholls autistic spasm."
Mare pretty much said what I wanted to - he sacrificed way more quality than is reasonable, necessary, or appealing in that video. It has nothing to do with understanding or not understanding.
And the entire point of a show is to impress people - what an idiot.

Yeah. And if you think it might be a good idea to go nuts on stage and have a little autistic tantrum with your guitar...don't do it on Letterman.
Seriously, there is no mosh pit in front of him. 99% of the studio audience came to see Letterman, not the Vines. The smart thing would be to keep it cool, put some energy into the performance, and make damn sure you look good for a TV broadcast.
If you're gonna wreck yourself, at least do it at your own show where you know you have fans.

Re: television performances
Come to think of it, performing in such a manner is also disrespectful to your host. And if your host is David Letterman, you better be as respectful as all fuck.

Re: television performances
I'm sick and tired of hearing about David Letterman. I shouldn't have gone to BSU.
