Hip Hop? R&B?
Hi guis Sorry if this topic's already been done, but if it has, I don't feel like looking it up, and since I've been here forever and I can't recall it, it's time for a new topic anyway. Anyone have any good hip-hop/R&B that's pretty classy, like the stuff they've got on Adult Swim, or what was used in Samurai Champloo? (Who's Theme, anyone?) If you do, could you hit this thread up with some recommendations. I'd be much obliged, kthx.

Shing02, m-flo, Shakkazombie, Flobots, Busdriver, MF Doom (and Dangerdoom), and the Streets are a great start, in my opinion.

*Real* R&B is great. Marvin Gaye is the man.

Re: Hip Hop? R&B?
i made a thread a couple years ago and got drop kicked by culen and all you bastards started chiming in. yeah, thanks.
I can't stress enough how fantastic A Tribe Called Quest is. That's how real hip hop is done right there. And they're back together so if they come to your town, go see them. Also off the top of my head, Pharcyde, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Kool Keith, Talib Kwali....the only japanese hip-hop I can stand listening to that I've heard so far is 54-71. ummm, as far as R&B goes...Sade is cool...my mom really digs Les Nubians and they sound aight...but that's all I can think of at the moment. it's really hard to find good stuff while wading through the sea of crap that is the modern r&b music scene.

Morcheeba... maybe. I think they were sort of R&Bish... maybe. I don't know how they are now since they dropped their original singer.

Re: Hip Hop? R&B?
For hip hop: Beastie Boys, MF Doom, Jurassic 5.
I always thought hip-hop was misinterpreted amongst rock fans as a whole, but it's at the fault of the hip-hop community. I like old-school hip-hop and rap, like the groups I listed above, and it's almost an entirely different type of music than it is today.
I don't listen to much R&B, but I do like a few Marvin Gaye songs.

Even then, their sound is very different from their first albums to now. Some songs sound pop, others have a country sound, then there's jazz. But I do agree, Morcheea is an excellent band. I think the original singer gives it a R&B sound.

Home Made 家族 is pretty awesome. Thank you was featured in Bleach. I have some of their stuff if you want it.
As far as American hip-hop goes, I've been listening to a lot of Rihanna. I've got some of her stuff too if you want it.

Re: Hip Hop? R&B?
I've hated everything I've heard of Rhianna, but I really love her song Disturbia. It's awesome. It just transitions so smoothly from verse to chorus to runs to bum-ba-didas, every element feeds into the next and comes out very good. It often pops in my head and gets me to move a bit. The video is pretty entertaining too, she rolls her eyes up a few times and actually looks kinda warped. The lyrics are great. Put on your break lights We're in the city of wonder Ain't gonna play nice Watch out, you might just go under Better think twice Your train of thought will be altered So if you must faulter be wise Your mind is in disturbia It's like the darkness is the light Disturbia Am I scaring you tonight (WIN) Your mind is in disturbia Ain't used to what you like Disturbia Disturbia I'm curious to know if there is anything else of hers that I could really get into. I have hated her first few singles, but not being a fan I certainly wouldn't know anything of her album cuts. I'd like an upload. Thanks for the Home Made Kazoku, zomg I've been meaning to look for it but never got around to it. Tis good!

Indeed.
Sam Cooke, Clarence Carter, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Percy Sledge...
Great stuff. There really isn't much rap I like these days, but again, old school rap is awesome. Although, as with most genres, indie/underground holds its hidden treasures...Boo Radley is a real great artist. El-P too.
