Cheaper with excellent quality. Fender.

When playing a Fender, I notice the lack of feeling that there's an anchor strapped around my neck.

Both are way too expensive if you want to get the good stuff.

Depends on what kind of guitar. Or what sound you want. I can't decide. Both sound, and look completely different, and if you play more than one style of music, then they both have their ups.

For my favorite styles of music I prefer Fender. Gibson has its place, though.

it's a hard decision, they both have their merits. I think I might prefer a fender more. to me, a gibson seems more suited for heavy distortion.

Either one works okay for most things, but I think Fender sounds better with a lot of alternative bands.
Take the pillows, for instance. Their Gibson-style guitars sounded great on Tiny Boat, a jazzy tune, but the Fenders work better for their alternative styles on Please Mr. Lostman and such.
Gibson, on the other hand, seems to be the axe-of-choice for hard rock and heavy metal bands.

Fender for nice easy sounds when you want to play good stuff.
Gibson when you need a certain harder sound and you bitch-slap your old stepbrother into letting you borrow it for a show.
I use a Fender more so I am going with that.

I don't play guitar often, but gibson's bodies and neck are hella thick, specially les paul, that's pretty much why I like fender better.
