Upwards of 90% of those possibilities end up in a lock.

So you've turned this thread into a discussion of which American and Japanese bands we like, and why.

That's quite a devolution of the original intent...Then again, the original intent was heavily flawed, so it's a moot point.

Somehow talking about opinions is < not talking about opinions. And opening up the floor more is devolution. :dizzy:

and tell me why do you immediatly deem the description of quality as solely why you like the bands you like?

He's saying that any attempt at an objective analysis has been completely forsaken by this point, not that it had achieved any relevent levels at any point in the thread.

ah. well I see how people could be frustrated by that. The idea of comparing two country's pop is pretty much impossible to say without a doubt that one is better then the other.

but the thread is only objective in the sense that its a free exchange of opinions. and subjective in what you take away from it.

Anyway, this thread is pretty much the same as the Convincing People Japan is Indeed Superior thread, or whatever it was called.

I know you're trying to get a topic started, but it's okay to admit defeat and try again. Or in case if you're me, it's okay to keep going on until you piss everyone off, who then realize that you knew you were wrong, but kept on going just to piss everyone off. That way, you don't save face and look like a jackass.

Since my exchange student came around from Japan, I've been listening to more Japanese pop because she really likes it better than rock (however I heard her singing along to a song by Going Steady in the car once so I don't really know). She likes a lot of ballad-type songs, like NANA Muzika and Mai Kuraki. She likes PUFFY too, but says that they basically made an album in Japan and left to America.... but yeah, I've been listening to more female pop singers lately, and enka.

Good thing is she doesn't like Ayumi and thinks Gackt is a woman, so she's not crazy.

I really think there's a good majority of Japanese pop tunes that are actually worthwhile, unlike a lot of mainstream American pop that is basically the same regurgitation of "I LOVE YOU, PLIS LOVE ME".

I'm no music master, but I know there are a hell of a lot of Japanese pop tracks with the same airy, shit-for-brains, cliche, repetitive lyrics. Find an amazing Japanese song writer? I'll counter with Sam Beam (Iron & Wine). Find a terrible Japanese song writer? I'll counter with Linkin Park.

Certain countries are not immune to terrible lyrics, melodies, etc.
