 Coheed And Cambria
95% of the people here will probably hate this, but this isn't for you all anyway.
I've been listening to them since just shortly before the release of "In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3", introduced to them by a friend who had gotten the previous record a few weeks earlier. The fact that there are people like the members of this band still around is the primary reason I still have any faith in music, or derive any pleasure from it. Progressive, conceptual, imaginative, multi-faceted music with genuine expression of emotion from a set of incredibly talented individuals with quite a story to tell indeed...
...They may as well be the new Rush without Ayn Rand. They're often pigeonholed into the genre of 'emo' because of Claudio's generally high falsetto register, despite his voice being so utterly flawless in quality, pitch and control. What more could anyone ask for? If thickheaded people have to label everything to feel comfortable and if putting your heart into your music makes you 'emo', then by all means, I am. I don't believe in song without spirit....Anyway.
If there -are- any fans of theirs present, let me hear back from you, please? Favorite songs or albums for various reasons...I have a lot of difficulty deciding, as their entire catalogue excites me greatly, but I usually have to stick with IKSSE:3 for an album overall, yet, 'Neverender' and 'Godsend Conspirator' as favorites. I was disappointed in "IRO-Bot" being cut from the re-release of SSTB, too....I like the songs they placed there, but "IRO-Bot" was such a perfect followup that it was practically part of 'Godsend Conspirator', a very fitting encore after the piano interlude probably meant to make continuity with "The Ring In Return" on the next record.
But, yes. Anyone with something positive to say, let's hear what you think. <3

Ok, I don't mean to offend, but when they played that one Apollo music video on the school TV I actually cried. People stared at me in Japanese class. It sounds like they did Increase Speed 100% in Sound Recorder.

Opinions aren't offensive...
I can't deny the fact that the videos from 'Good Apollo' sucked, especially the little...Animated things. Remember that they only had a couple of hundred dollars and photoshop to work with on them, since Equal Vision can't afford an animation team or anything, and the major label that they work with is just for distribution...But, I don't watch their videos more than once anyway. I like to stick with the albums and the concept of the story being presented; It's a shame that people end up having their first experience with the band through a video such as 'Blood Red Summer' (Which made no sense.) or "The Suffering" (Which made LESS sense.), both of which are better appreciated when associated with their proper place in the tale. There's an excellent explaination at www.cobaltandcalcium.com in the 'About' section, or http://www.cobaltandcalcium.com/index.p ... bria_story in case you're lazy and want to link directly into one of them (There are a couple of them at various levels of depth and length.).
The song "Welcome Home" from the most recent album is a good show of why they shouldn't make videos...I love the band but it really seems like a medium that's forced to them, as they don't appear to enjoy making videos much and that becomes even more clear when you actually see one of them.
I suppose maybe it was a stretch to a new area that didn't go over as well as it would've been hoped, but it's no loss; Much like Rush, their works seem too expansive to be fit into a little clip to be played on the TV; The eyes are relied on far too much by those without the capacity to let their minds and hearts absorb anyway.

We love you, Steven. <33
Anyway, I never cared much for Thrice, or most of their opening acts so far, but I did have a few chances to see Coheed live...Unfortunately, it was during the IKSSE:3 period of touring at a time when Claudio was being a bit stupid and not warming up or rehearsing much before a show, waking up an hour before, etc., and it was showing. His voice was also starting to take a little damage from approaching his higher vocal registers without getting his voice loosened up beforehand and it was starting to give him throat problems. As I've heard from friends of mine who saw them on some more recent shows, he's gotten much better and improved dramatically, suggesting he's gotten a little more responsibility as of late. Also, with the guitars on Good Apollo primarily in Eb, to match the pitches properly, his vocals are a bit lower on most songs this time around in order to keep the overall feel of the record a little darker to keep it in line with the mood of the point in the storyline it's hitting.
Thrice is out touring at the moment as I've been told by a fellow I know living in California at the moment who is into them a lot. Good luck on seeing them if you get the opportunity. n_n
