 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Haha, I think I know exactly what it means, you are just not understanding my point....I'm not arguing this to death because it's my favorite song and I'm a rabid fanboy, I'm arguing it because the point that I'm trying to make, that you are not getting, is correct. You didn't say it was a surprise, I agree, but you did sort of imply it was like nothing they've done before, past or present. And the elements are there, I don't know why you can't see them. But this can't go on anymore, so we'll leave it be.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
*sigh* Yes, I'm "backing down gracefully" because I'm tired of not conveying the valid point I'm trying to make. Way too much effort has already been put into this, but thanks for the heated debate.

Arguing against strawmen that rely on things the other person has never said instead of addressing their points is not making a valid argument, it's just ignoring what the other person is saying.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Two year bump? Anyway, after seeing the title "Anemone," on the pillows' upcoming album, it made me think of the song "Anemone no Saku Haru ni" by Ajikan and I had to give it a listen again. I'd forgotten how pleasant some of Ajikan's songs could be. I was never a really big fan, per se, but the songs that I liked I really liked and always had a way of getting stuck in my head. I liked the album version better, but there's something about the cadence in the chorus of Anemone no Saku Haru ni that I can't get over. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ6QGNHipW8So, in other words...any cool news on the Ajikan front within this two year gap in posts?

Indeed, great song! I'm not too on the up and up either, but I know they came out with a single, at the very least, this year. http://en.musicplayon.com/play?v=910737They also had a song they did with Tokyo Ska Paradise which was neat!

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Gotoh did a solo album full of pop tunes, so hopefully he's got that out of his system and Ajikan's next release will not sound like it was produced by Perfume's team.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Well, Wonder Future was pretty damn awesome....it was definitely rocking, could definitely hear some Foo Fighter influence (they recorded it at 606 Studios)...
But more importantly....2016 is AKFG's 20th anniversary! There's already a single and DVD planned for this month, as well as another single and another DVD planned for this year, and in December, they will be re-releasing Sol-Fa. Not just remastering it, but actually re-recording it. I'm excited to see if they'll change things up a bit...the version of Re:Re: that they play live these days (and have for a few years now) is awesome, and that's actually the single they are releasing this year as well (they remixed it and it's being used as an anime OP).
I'm really really hoping that they'll finally make their way to the US for their 20th. They toured Europe and Latin America in the past couple of months, it's only a matter of time!

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Read my previous post in this thread, felt bothered at how snobby I was being about things, felt glad that it was over a year old. Not that I still don't want more ballsy rock tones in Ajikan, but seriously beating a dead horse there.
I have a lot of hope for re-recorded Sol-fa, considering how good their studio live DVD with old songs was.

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
I agree, they're certainly a tight live unit these days, that's why I'd love to see them here in the states. Especially if they played the venues the pillows have played. To see them that close would be amazing.
Did you give any listen to Wonder Future per chance?

 Re: Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Yeah man, some really cool pieces of writing on there. I dug the number of transitions they had going on a few of the tracks. Gotta listen to it more, though, because I only gave it like...three or four listens so far, to be honest.

Hey this is pretty cool. If you look around :30 you see that the pillows played with Ajikan at this Tower Records show. They're one the plaque as guests.
