I had been afraid to like this song for some reason. I think I didn't want to be associated with other fans of Neutral Milk Hotel I had seen on the internet.

But today it struck me how absolutely beautiful these lyrics are. I think it deserved a Grammy and more.

It's a pretty good album and the song is also quite nice. NMH is a little over-rated, IMO, but Jeff Mangum has written some [i]great[/i] tunes over the years, no doubt. "Naomi", "Holland, 1945" and "Communist Daughter" are favorites.

I can see that, them being overrated. But I'd probably be one of the ones doing the overrating, just for dem lyrics. The vocals are not great and the music, while good, is certainly not god-tier.

Always loved this one.
