Wilco
I can't believe we don't have a thread for these guys. They're one of the best bands out there these days, and have a fantastic lineup of musicians featuring avant-garde guitar nut Nels Cline and drummer extraordinaire Glenn Kotche. Their early music is country-inspired folk rock, but recent albums have been considerably more experimental, incorporating elements of krautrock and innovative production techniques to a more distinctive rock sound. What's really cool is that you can listen to all their albums, plus several live sets, on their website for free. What other band loves you this much?? I recommend for starters: Kicking Television (Live In Chicago) - Ashes Of American Flags, At Least That's What You Said, Via Chicago, Spiders (Kidsmoke) Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, Heavy Metal Drummer, Pot Kettle Black Sky Blue Sky - Impossible Germany, Side With The Seeds Summerteeth - ELT http://www.wilcoworld.net

Re: Wilco
There's no thread because they're relatively unknown, I'm guessing? I remember hearing a song by them that you linked me to and thinking it was pretty good.

Re: Wilco
Actually, as far as indie rock goes Wilco is pretty darn well-known. Probably doesn't hurt that they've won a few Grammys.

Re: Wilco
I don't know a whole lot about them, I've seen them a few times on late night, and I saw a clip of them doing a Bob Dylan song with Fleet Foxes. That was sweet.

Re: Wilco
YHF is probably one of the best records released in the past decade. Every time you play it you heard something that you missed before.
Wilco really is great. Jeff Tweedy and company are hard working musicians who have built their career on the road. I had someone offer me passes to their summer show at Wolf Trap in VA, but I couldn't attend. Would have really liked to shake hands with those guys, they're the real deal.

Re: Wilco
I hate to say this but the new album really disappointed me. Bull Black Nova was the only keeper of the new songs. All the phenomenal guitar and instrumental interplay that made the last album and live recordings so exciting feels replaced by unremarkable dad-rock that Sky Blue Sky toyed around with but kept interesting with great music. But then again, almost every band I like has been putting out underwhelming releases this year, so maybe I'm just being too pessimistic.
I feel really dumb for not having seen them live yet, but I'm not a huge concertgoer and they're pretty expensive. One of these days.
