Option 2) Take it slowly, and sound it out one note at a time. Training your ear to do this is a valuable skill -- it's nice to not have to rely on tabs for the simpler songs.
This involves:
-Making sure your guitar is tuned well.
-Listening to a few notes at a time, and figuring out how to play those notes on the guitar.
-For Gazelle City, I'm pretty sure Manabe and Sawao's lead (for the riffs) occurs just on frets 1-4.
-Remember the open strings. Rather than stretching to hit a note on another string, see if the open E, A, D, G, B, e have what you're looking for.
-Keep in mind that all of the notes are there on your guitar. If what you're playing doesn't sound just like Manabe/Sawao, then try a different note.
And report back on how that goes, if you please.
