Post subject: | Thunder Whales Picnic Request [Bass] |
I know someone requested the bass tab for Thunder Whales Picnic a while ago, but it never seemed to have amounted to an actual tab. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out. This song simply rocks. Thank you very much. |

I'll think about it, but my acknowledging a request hardly ever leads anywhere. I think it's already around here anyhow. |
isnt the bass like guitar 2 on the tab on the website?
I'm a complete noob when it comes to music (I've only been playing bass for a little while). I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know how to pick out chords, let alone read the tablature for them. |

I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know how to pick out chords, let alone read the tablature for them.
er... if u can't read tabs why did u request it? lol.... Reading tabs is simple. Typically for bass it'll be something like: G|----- D|----- A|------ E|----- The G, D, A, and E represent the G, D, A, and E strings. You'll often see numbers on each line... where the number represents the respective fret (5 on the D string would mean holding the 5th fret on the D string down) you need to hold down. On one of the links here, or even just googling it, I'm sure you can find a more thorough explanation of tablature. The problem with tablature is, unlike sheet music, it's not real easy to tell the timing or the length of the notes. I recommend if you have time, learn how to read sheet music instead of tabs. With tabs you do really have to listen to the music, whereas sheet music you can just read and play the music. |

Thank you for the explanation, but you've miss-understood me. I can and have read tabs for the bass guitar; my problem is understanding chords. For example it was said that the "rhythm during verse is one chord, 577xxx or 576xxx." I don't know what this means. I don't know what strings it should be played on, and I assume that the x stands for a palm-mute. If I'm given straight-up bass tabs I can figure the song out just fine, but if someone gives me the chords to the song, my pants become filled with urine and my bass guitar refuses to make proper noises. (I'm going to start taking classes soon so I can actually know some things about music theory and progression). |

a typical bass' strings are just the 4 lowest strings of a guitar's. so in this case the chords on the bass will be 577x or 576x which translates to:
G|-x------x-| D|-7--or--6-| A|-7------7-| E|-5------5-|
|

Ah, I see. Thank you for clearing that up. I'm not exactly sure how I'm supposed to be able to play the song from that single chord; but stil,l thank you. (I'd still like a tab to the song though ![]() |

I just tabbed it, but I don't guarantee complete accuracy. I used my laptop speakers which are absolutely horrible for bass, but it does sound pretty right anyways.
Jun uses distortion in this song (Verse 1) G|------------------------------------------------------------| D|------------------------------------------------------------| A|-----7-6-7-6:\------7-6-7-6:\------7-6-7-6:\------7-6-7-6:\-| E|-0-0------------0-0------------0-0------------0-0-----------| (Verse 2) G|-----------------------------| D|-----6----6------------4h6p4-| A|-0-0--0-0--...-etc-...-------| E|-----------------------------| (Verse 3a) G|------------------------------------------2:::-| D|-------------------------------------------2::-| A|-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-7-7-7-9-9-9-9-9-9-10::---2:-| E|-7-7-7-7-7-7-5-5-5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-7--8::------| (Verse 3b) G|-------------------------------------------| D|-------------------------------------------| A|-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-7-7-7-9-9-9-9-9-9-10::--| E|-7-7-7-7-7-7-5-5-5-5-5-5-7-7-7-7-7-7--8::--| (Verse 3c) G|-------------------------| D|-------------------------| A|-9-9-9-9-9-9-7-7-7-7-7-7-| *repeat until end of song* E|-7-7-7-7-7-7-5-5-5-5-5-5-| (Verse 4) G|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| D|---7-6-------------------------7-6-----------------------7-6-------------------------7-6-----7-6:\--| A|-0-----7-6-/9-7\-/9-11-11----0-----7-6-/9-7\-/9-7-7:\--0-----7-6-/9-7\-/9-11-11----0-----7-6--------| E|----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Song Arrangement: (Rest ) (Verse 1) (Rest ) (Verse 1) (Verse 3a) (Verse 2 ) (Verse 1) (Verse 2) (Verse 1) (Verse 3b) (Verse 4) (Verse 2 ) (Verse 1) (Verse 2) (Verse 1) (Verse 3b) (Verse 4) (Verse 2 ) (Verse 1) (Verse 2) (Verse 1) (Verse 3c)
|

I thought it was weird that you were asking how to read tabs when you wanted tabs or the song ![]() ![]() Thanks for the info on bass chords, I've had a hard time finding good-sounding 3-string chords on bass. So far some 2 string chords sound good though. Thanks for the post, Overburn! I've gotta try it out later when I have time |
