The thing is: When I tabbed Happy Slave I recorded on microphone and guitar, the song, for a friend of mine. He told me that he couldn't play the song by himself just by reading the tab and that the record I helped him a lot. Then again, he said he couldn't play Bye Bye Sweet Pain just by the tab and asked me to record again 'cause it's much easier to learn it without the drums and bass in background.
I'd like to know if you have the same problem of him. If so, is anybody here interested in me recording just the guitar of any existing song?
But my conditions are poor. What I pretend is to link the electic guitar I have in my mother's house directly to the PC, where enters the microfone. and then use windows recorder.
I have an amp there too. Does anybode have any recomendation on recording? Any simple program? I don't want those complicated ones, they take too much time and there are too many options that confuses me. Including that I don't want anything super high quality.

I haven't used any recording software, but you might do well to check out Cakewalk's products (They make the popular Fruity Loops mixer and other such things-- http://www.cakewalk.com/guitarists.asp ), but my personal recommendation will have to be Fostex's Blem MR-8 8 track digital recorder. I found one for $200 on musiciansfriend.com, so it's a little steep but worth it if you can afford it. I record on a Digitech pedal that I'd recommend -anyone- to use, but at about $500, it's not exactly affordable. x.@;

Two of Cakewalk's software titles that looked promising and fairly simple were Guitar Tracks Pro 3 and SONAR Home Studio. You can probably download them from there or someplace, they might have it available for download as Fruity Loops is.

Of course, the reliable old tapedeck is still the one I use most, because it's only $5 for a pack of blank casettes and I can screw up or mess around on them as much as I want. I got my tape recorder at some dollar store...One of the little pocket sized ones with the microphone on it. It takes headphone and MD deck support, and even better, you don't have to plug it in to record anything like you do with a pedal or a computer.

First, yes, it's always quite a help to not have to slow the song down or try to hear the difference between the parts. It's also helpful in developing your ear by hearing it seperately as well. I don't have trouble understanding the tabs at all, but I'd still be interested in the recordings. I could burn them onto a CD or something, since you can't always carry around a folder full of tab for practice.

And also, don't worry about it. I'd wondered if anyone had thanked you for so many contributions before, and if they hadn't, they should've. You seem to be quite a talented guitarist, and you definitely have a better ear for tone than I do. I give my band your tab too, since I don't usually trust other people's if I can find one of yours. Seriously. Very reliable stuff there. n__n


As far as the software, I haven't heard of Audacity myself but if it's free, it got good words from these guys so it must be worth it. I'll keep an eye out for any other things of the sort I see that might be useful to you, too.

But do these softwares do improvement on the quality of the sound, things like this or they just help you to make the effects you want, cut and paste parts, etc.?

Windows recorder IS disgusting, but it can be ok if you have a good sound card to record. And by hearing parts of a song separately it's sure easier to learn, but on long terms you'll end up getting "addicted" to it and it'll be much harder to learn stuff by ear.

Heh, don't worry about that. I learn how to play the songs by tabbing them. For exemple, I still don't know how to play Sweet Pain's full solo. I listened and put it in the text, but I don't remember very well, including that I can't play a part of it in my guitar (not enough frets), although it's the one I used to tab the song.

Hey. I dug up a post on the 'On That Note' guitar forum...This was posted by a fellow named Ryan Smith on October 9th 2004, but I checked the link and it's still there. It's a shareware this guy wrote for slowing guitar music down to make it easier to hear all the notes and such. I'm working on a library computer for the next week or so until I can afford service at home again, so I can't try it myself yet but maybe it'll be of some use.

There's also a plugin called 'slowmedown' for Winamp on the Winamp site that doesn't bend the pitch or anything, this much I -have- used. Freeware, as always, is sexy.

I also found a very nice piece of hardware that does allow you to have lots of effect control and such, called Line 6 GuitarPort, but at $230...All the features are highly attractive, but it's even too rich for my blood at the moment. oh, it was a general "you" there, how would you hear a separated part of a song anyway?

Ok, here they are. As I said before, I used no program, just Windows recorder. The quality sucks a lot, you'll have to raise the volume to hear it. And I make a lot of mistakes during the songs, but I keep playing after them because I played following the song's rythm.

Here's a file that contains: Happy Slave (just from after the second chorus on, including solo), Tonight (just the solo and what comes after it i 1 minute), Naked Shuffle (for this one I stopped like 2 times because I didn't want to play it all and I dunno why else) and Bye Bye Sweet Pain (I played until the chorus two times and didn't go to the solo because I still don't know how to play it full).

I recorded all of this because today my friend came here and got his guitar (wich is actualy his friend's) so I won't have it anymore for I don't know how many time

Should I create a new topic for it (for those who'd like to record something too)?

Actually, it might be helpful to tabbers and people making requests for them. It could make it easier for those working on a particular song to co-operate on deciphering it if they could hear one another; Especially in making the lead and rhythm seperate, since a lead player could hear just the rhythm part played and try to match his lead over it to the actual song or vice-versa. Good idea. n___n
