Honestly I never really bothered to use tab when it comes to chords. I just look at which chords are in the progression, make sure there's no unusual fingerings involved, and get the strumming pattern by ear and/or intuition.

Tab is for people too lazy to actually learn an instrument. This statement is true 95% of the time.

If that instrument is sheet music, then yeah.

i dunno man, reading tabs is actually pretty easy for me, but thats because I have prior experiance with other instruments and sheet music and stuff... but if you really need to figure out tab, I recommend taking a class on basic guitar, then it should make allot more sense, plus you will know basic music theory from the class, thats always a plus.
by the way, tabing is extremely basic, you cant really express beat in a tab, so its best to play it when you know the song very well, and by then you should have a basic idea of how your playing is supposed to be, so after you get the hang of it, all you need tabs for is figuring out and checking chords and complicated parts and stuff, its just a guideline, if you want the music, then go with sheet music.

I always thought tab was completely intuitive.
If you need it explained, you might as well learn sheet music.
pretty much. this is the first time i've seen somebody needing help with just reading a tab in general. the b/r h/p stuff might logically need explaining, but...
+1
[edit]
also: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GUITAR PRO. benefits of both tabs and sheet music. because it IS tabs + sheet music. that you can play along to. and hear if it sounds right. and slow down. and yadda yadda yadda...
