This is an incredible fan bootleg (audio) that was just uploaded on Youtube. Such a piece of history is deserving of its own thread. :whoa:
https://youtu.be/BCHaFUOiSHY

This performance is from 1993; when the pillows were experimenting around and reinventing themselves. It’s the “rebirth” of the pillows.
The setlist contains several songs that weren’t released until several years later. It’s pretty amazing to hear these early prototype versions.

01. 恋のスパイに気をつけろ
02. Sunday
03. 気にしてないよ
03. Yellow Beans (Early version)
04. 彼女は今日、(Early version)
05. あの日と同じ空の下で
06. 確かめに行こう (Early version)
07. 巴里の女性マリー
08. Sha-la-la-lla
09. 公園〜黄昏のワルツ〜
10. TONIGHT
11. TOY DOLL
12. エンゼルフィッシュ
13. 開かない扉の前で
14. ローレライ
15. WANT TO SLEEP FOR…
16. NAKED SHUFFLE
17. 彼女はシスター
18. Another Morning (Early version)
19. ぼくらのハレー彗星
20. サリバンになりたい
21. DAYDREAM WONDER

"Let's See If That's True or Not" is easily the biggest surprise; didn't even know that it existed in 1993. I guess Sawao was like Noel Gallagher in that he had all these amazing songs squirreled away well before they were unleashed upon the world.

Sawao doing "Another Morning" solo is pretty cool but I'd love to hear the Bootleg the Pillows version live. My favourite version of the song. Woulda been cool if they did it as an encore for Return to Third Movement Vol. 1 (even though the original version wasn't from the 3rd Movement).

I shared this on the Discord, but for all three of you who aren't on it > https://mega.nz/#!rXQDRSCT!2zOhYlkQqjnb ... 1Og7sIZL48

I have fixed the volume on the left channel and split the songs into tracks, including the mic segments where Sawao talks to the crowd. He introduces the band in #2.

HOLY SHIT. HOLY SHIT. This is awesome

:shred:

This is absolutely deserving of its own thread! How the heck did this just randomly show up on Youtube? Mafu, this has never been circulated, even among the Japanese fan community? What else is this dude sitting on?!

I know what I'm listening to tonight! I'm blown away that Let's See if That's True Or Not is on here. What else were they playing back then, is what I wanna know. And thanks for the rip and for splitting it, Spike! By the way, what's "Discord", because apparently, I'm not on it.

I'm excited to delve into this and hear some of these WI songs though. Just listening to the first couple songs now, and I have the goofiest smile on my face. Ending the day on a good note. :groovin:

Oh, and a heads up, there is nothing on the Dead List Paradise site from 1993. We're really looking into an unexplored portion of the pillows' history right here!

Another thought that just crossed my mind: Has anyone ever seen the pictures that are in the Youtube video before? I'm guessing that these must be pictures from the show that the uploader took himself, no?

haha sorry. I'll try to get on once I'm a little less busy. Thanks so much for the rip!!!

...I just realised that all the photos are from Shimokitazawa Shelter, not Nissin Power Station. Don't know why the uploader put those in the video, but it seems that they're not from the recorded show (unless he wrote down the wrong venue, but the poster at the start definitely says Nissin Power Station).

Looks like they've just recently started uploading old bootlegs from bands like Thee Michelle Gun Elephant and The Pees. Hopefully they have much more stuff up their sleeve.

Super rad this got uploaded, and thanks for bringing attention to it! Definitely a cool surprise! Seems like footage of the show must exist somewhere (or did), because isn't that opening and first bit of Love Spy in the Walkin' on the Spiral documentary (was that the one?)? I don't have it anymore, so I can't check, but I thought I recognized that bit. The documentary probably said which show it was from for easy confirmation. And this would have been Kashima on bass, ja?

the documentary just says "93 Live at Nissin Power Station" but its pretty obvious from Sawao shouting "hello my little sister" that this is the same show as the one in the doc. also Sawao introduces Kashima at around the 15 minute mark in the bootleg recording; that very same intro is also in the doco.

The uploader actually mentions in the video description that the images are different. "The images used are from the closest related live".

The person who uploaded this has uploaded another bootleg from 1994. It's got the pillows along with other artists.

Here's the song they covered:
