The pillows have had some great b-sides, even from '07 onward. I was listening to Across the Metropolis a few days ago. I had forgotten about it. It's really a great track.
Was that anime song recorded previously? I don't think I've heard it before.

Re: New b-side collection "Across the metropolis". March rel
Awesome news! Thanks for the heads up! I think I'll be getting this. I haven't actually gotten a physical copy of an album since Pied Piper, or a single since Scarecrow. The band has a bunch of awesome b-sides from this era Like Split Emotion, Hiking, Finger Post of Magic... etc. It's a shame that the b-sides from Sono Mirai wa Ima and The Third Eye can't see a proper release since they aren't on the Avex label. Yea, Lostman Go To Yesteray, but that was different. But I'm excited to hear a studio version of Chelsea Hotel. I'm curious to know if this is a new version, or an origianl version with the full band from when the song was first written. Is there any answer to that in the text of the article?

They named it after a b-side that they already put on an album

Seven new PVs? So what, are they just gonna record some new music videos for these b-sides like they did with Last Holiday on the "Revival of Motion Pictures" DVD? And interesting to note, Google Translate hints (I say hints since the translation is so garbled) that the Chelsea Hotel recording is a new re-arrangement. It's a shame we can't get the original studio demo, but at least we'll finally get to hear what an actual electric version sounds like

Big news came out today with the reveal of the tracklist:
http://natalie.mu/music/news/173227
Here's the album art:

And on the tracklist we of course have Chelsea Hotel, but also an official release for Lightning Runaway. Even more curious is this song: Sekai wa okujō de miwataseta (newly recorded)
At first, I thought it was a self-cover of Climbing on the Roof, but apparently not once I stopped hyperventilating and actually read the romanji. Anyone know what this song is? Does it come from the same era as Chelsea Hotel? I think I heard Chelsea Hotel came somewhere around 2004-05... or am I just imagining that?

...and that's what I get for not having good short term memory, or the ability to scroll to the top of the page. Thanks Mafu for the clarification!

Re: New b-side collection "Across the metropolis". March rel
So I just got my copy of the compilation in, with the DVD and all. It's a pretty sweet package! Some allusions to yellow Submarine on the back cover of the album, to keep with The Beatles' theme going regarding the title and album artwork. It's great to finally hear Chelsea Hotel in high quality. This studio version is great, and I'm absolutely loving that solo.
Sekai wa okujō de miwataseta also sounds wonderful. The guitar melody in the verses remind me of something from The Smashing Pumpkins, Mellon Collie era for sure... but I cna't put my finger on which specific song yet. It'll come to me, but man, awesome song, it's just too bad it was never on an album. But hey, that's what we've come to expect with b-sides from this band. Just as Another Morning, Another Pillows was, this should also be considered a greatest hits album. Granted, there are some clunkers on here (i.e., Tabasco Disco, Go! Go! Jupiter, And Hello!) while there wasn't any on AMAP, but with stuff like Hiking, Split Emotion, and Finger Post, this is a great pick up. I'm glad we got all these songs in one place.
Also of note, not sure if this was mentioned, but the liner notes list Kashima as the bassist for Sekai wa okujō de miwataseta and Chelsea Hotel. I'm loving the fact that Kashima is back, I gotta say.
