2014.10.04 - 「BOOTLEG THE PILLOWS 1992-1993」
http://pillows.jp/p/2014-10-04-out-bootleg1. Hello Friend 2. アナザーモーニング (Another Morning) 3. 僕だけのモナリザ (boku dake no MONA RIZA; Mona Lisa all my own) 4. 僕でいられるように (boku de irareru you ni; To remain myself) 5. Swingers a go! go! 6. 彼女は今日 (Kanojo wa kyou,; Today, she...) 7. 今夜もスローナイト (kon'ya mo SUROO NAITO; Another Slow Night) 8. クーパーのポスター (KUUPAA no POSUTAA; Cooper Poster) 10. NAKED SHUFFLE 11. FLASH CANDY 12. BEAUTIFUL PICTURE EDIT: For clarification, it's called "Bootleg," but it's a collection of demo recordings. So goddamn sick. This is going to be sold at the Anniversary show this weekend, and there are several VERY cool things about this. First off, it shows that Another Morning, Kanojo wa kyou, and Beautiful Picture were all written WAY earlier than any of us thought. I knew that Hybrid Rainbow, Strange Chameleon, and Okujou ni Nobotte were all written around the same time period, but this is impressive news to me on some of these tracks; both that all three of the ones on this album are also super early songs, and also that they were written SO EARLY. Also, check track number 8's title: Cooper no Poster. I was trying to figure out why that sounded familiar, and it's actually in the first line of Sick Vibration's second verse ("Cooper no Poster hatte"). Sawao got all meta on us or something, I'm excited as fuck to hear these.

Re: 2014.10.04 - 「BOOTLEG THE PILLOWS 1992-1993」
Holy shit. HOLY SHIT! We're actually going to get to hear Boku Dake no Mona Lisa?! And all this time we thought it was a Penalty Life era song like Flag Star! But more importantly... even more unheard of songs that we never even knew of. I'm seriously losing my mind right now, this is something I've DREAMED of the pillows releasing. If not deluxe editions of their albums with outtakes and demos, than at least this, a collection of early demos. This is amazing! Also, for the record, we did know for a while that Beautiful Picture was written earlier than 1997. It was played on 12/18/95 during the Tiny Boat tour. Now that's not 92-93, but certainly earlier than when most the rest of the Little Busters material was written. It was also played live again on 7/23/96, which was still over an entire year before it was officially released. http://deadlistparadise.blog91.fc2.com/blog-date-199512.html But this only confirms my suspicions that the pillows' vault is massive. No one has ever even heard of most of these songs, and to think something like Another Morning was recorded as early as 1993! What I want to know is how the band picked only these 12 songs. What is the reasoning behind it? There's still songs we've never gotten to hear at all like Never on Air or a full version of Henry Verdoux no Shougai. let alone the actual demo versions of Future and Liberty, or Ano Koro ni Modotte for that matter. Obviously those songs aren't from the 92-93 time period, but damn... there's still so much music out there from this band that we haven't heard. I sincerely hope this is the first of many such releases, hopefully culminating in some deluxe versions with outtakes and demos. Also, it seems like this is going to be available in the Busters Shop as well. I really want to get my hands on this. I know a lot of you have bought items from Japanese sites that require Japanese credit cards, if not the Buster Shop, before. I hear that Celga is very expensive. What trustworthy website service can I use to buy this CD. Would http://www.tenso.com/en/ be a good choice? Or maybe there's something else I've never heard of? A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

This, however, is new and surprising news. Not to knock providing good information, just saying that I don't know why you're presenting it as if you're correcting me on it being surprising.

WHAT THE SHIT!?!?! Our prayers have been answered. Someone in high places is reading this forum. ... Now I'm wondering, is there a Japanese pillows forum on par with IM? Kanojo wa kyou is that old? That's so fucking cool. I can't wait to hear if it was different than the PML version. I'm actually prepared to spend money on music, at least to vote with my wallet, as they say.
Well I think 2 years is still pretty significant. The Hybrid Rainbow single came out 11/21/97, nearly 2 years before it's release, and a full album cycle in PML had already passed. I was just pointing out that we already knew Sawao had been toying around with that song for some time, but we had no idea he had been doing the same with Another Morning and Kanojo wa kyou. Seeing as Patricia had a different arrangement in 1995, it's quite possible Beautiful Picture did too. So it's not so much a correction, just giving out what I thought was a bit of pertinent info.

1-2 or even 3 years for a song to go from initial live appearance to album release is actually incredibly common for bands in general, though. Definitely pertinent and interesting info, though.

For Japanese bands, 2-3 years is pretty normal. Some stuff gets played for 6+ years and still never gets an album release.
I'll be buying this and ripping in FLAC.

Re: 2014.10.04 - 「BOOTLEG THE PILLOWS 1992-1993」
Hm, interesting, I never really realized that. the pillows live archive is really the only one I follow as far as Japanese bands go, so I never would've guessed that's something normal. Typically, at least with US/UK bands I listen to, it's rare to play something new live and then release it three years later. And I think that's because Western bands have a propensity to compartmentalize everything. Like, if a bunch of songs were recorded during a specific album session, whatever gets left on the cutting room floor never gets released.
Weezer, for example, did this twice during their hiatus between Pinkerton and the Green Album, and again before Make Believe came out in 2005. But there's always exceptions to the rule, and I guess I learned something new today about Japanese bands. We can clearly see they are NUMEROUS songs that the pillows have played lie years before they were released. Sawao seems comfortable enough to go back in his discography, reanalyze it, spruce it up, and put it out on a record, even though it didn't work out for whatever reason three, four, or five years before.
Anyway, the album cover is out. It's kind of in the same style of 90's My Life Returns. I gotta get this. Again, recommended third party websites I can use to order this from the Busters Shop?

I've used Tenso in the past, it was pretty simple. You sign up, and you have to scan a picture of your license or passport (you can black out your picture/personal information) but you need a document that certifies the mailing address you gave them, with your name.
After they "clear" you, they give you a Japanese address. You shop on a site as one normally would, and when you get to that part, you put in the address they gave you, and I think pay the base amount (it's been a while so I forget exactly how that works). Then they send you an invoice when the product arrives to their warehouse, they weigh it and let you know the total with shipping and their service charge. It's not terrible, but not something one could do all the time, I'd imagine. It's more expensive than just ordering straight to your door from hmv, CD JP, Amazon JP, etc. for sure, but it also allows you to get things you can't get from these outlets, so in cases like that, you would expect to pay a bit more anyway.
Good luck! After ordering the blu-ray I think I'll pass on this purchase, but I hope some kind Buster on here grabs it!

I'm pretty sure several people will be getting themselves a copy of this in some way or other, there will definitely be rips. I'm super pumped.

This is absolutely crazy. I thought things wouldn't get any deeper than the Future single, it appears the impossible is happening. Here's hoping this is the first in a series.

Guys I just listened to it. Really good. Just make up your mind what you think of it when you listen to it. I will not tell any details about it yet, just that overall it is great.

I want ALL details. What does Another Morning sound like? Are there liner notes included, giving maybe a brief look into these songs? Holy crap, where can I find this thing? How did you get to listen to it already? My mind is going a mile a minute.. About to lose my shit here
