Runners High Please Mr. Lostman Smile Good Dreams Living Field Happy Bivouac Trial Little Busters Horn Again Thank You, My Twilight Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! Penalty Life Moondust My Foot Pied Piper Ooparts I didn't rank anything older than Living Field. A lot of these were already pretty difficult to rank against each other, and the older stuff has enough different qualities to it that it gets a bit apples-vs-oranges. |

Oh god another thread based on ranking pillows stuff. I'll bite for just a top few because otherwise I'll spend way too long trying to figure out how to break all the potential ties. The only solidly decided spot on here is number one, the rest fluctuate constantly depending on my mood. 1. Please Mr. Lostman - the classic, be-all end-all "best album ever" for me. 2. Kool Spice - never heard anything like this when I came across it, still haven't heard anything that hits in quite the same way. 3. Little Busters - Blues Drive Monster got me into the pillows, Hybrid Rainbow got me through high school and the first year or two of college. 'nuff said, this album is rocks as fucks. 4. Runners High - My mom picked this up for me shortly after I made my first pillows purchases as a birthday present. I didn't even mention that it was one of my favorites, she just happened to pick it up. Named my first band Midnight Down, because that shit's one of my favorite songs of theirs. Fuck yeah, Runners High. 5. Smile - I remember hearing the title track for this song via a cassette tape on the way to a church youth group activity. Somehow the semi-sacrilegious nature of Sawao's lyrics, with God shouting down from the sky "FUCKING HUMANS," was kick-ass as all hell. |

1)Bootleg The first album I bought of them without having the songs heard before. Bought it at my first pillows live show, the 25th anniversary show in Japan. Listened it after the show and awesome night out. That first listen was great. After that the album stuck with me. The ‘Another Morning’ of the album is featured in the video that Brye made of our trip. Aside from all the good memories attached to it, I really like the style of the songs. It’s a mix of Kool Spice and White Incarnation. This is one of the few albums I have really listened to several times in its whole, as an album. Just the mere fact that this old tracks were released after so many years, make it a very special album. 2)White Incarnation Tonight is one of my favourite songs. It is a great combo with Good Night, Sitting on Paper Moon, Right Here Like this and She’s my Sister. These are my favourite tracks on the album. I Want to Be Salivan is also pretty cool at times. These songs are among the first songs of tp I listened to on my mp3-player. Great atmosphere, like how the songs are recorded. 3)Thank You My Twilight This album rocks. Shiroi Natsu is one my all-time favorite songs. I like the crunch and shrill sounds of the songs like Winoa, Ritalin 202 and Rain Brain. Come On, Ghost is a nice upbeat song. Rookie Jet is fun, just like Babylon…. Etc. I don’t dislike any of the songs. 4)Living Field This album really has a distinct sound. It is very soothing and I like the clean guitar, the added instruments, the arrangements. Daydream Wonder is one of my favourite songs. 5)Wake Up Just works very well. Upbeat and catchy. Scarecrow was one of my favourite songs for a very long time, especially in the beginning. 6)Turn Back Though not a ‘real’ album, Tiny Boat is on it. And I have two copies on it. One of the first albums (of any artist) that I bought. 7)My Foot My Foot, Rock ‘n Roll Sinners, March of God, Non-Fiction… this album together with White Incarnation do I remember as the albums I first listened to (in combination). 8.Runners High I also own this one. Hmm...Runners High (the song) still works for me and Let's See if That's True or Not is fantastic. 9)Please Mr. Lostman 10)Little Busters 11)Penalty Life Dead Stock Paradise...Juan, Brye, Philip? ![]() 12)Another Morning, Another Pillows There are a lot of nice song on this, hehe. 13)Good Dreams 14)Kool Spice 15)Smile 16)90’s My Life 17)Happy Bivouac 18)Pantomime 19)Ooparts 20)Trial 21)Pied Piper 22)Moon Gold 23)Horn Again 24)Moondust So my top 5 feels pretty right to me. The bottom 5 also. Everything in between is really close to each other. |

White Incarnation through to Please Mr. Lostman is the core. Beginning is very interesting. 1998-2002 is mostly great. 2003-2007 is very good. After that I start to stop caring very rapidly. |

5)Wake Up 17)Happy Bivouac
Some Busters just want to watch the world burn... ![]() I like all the songs of Wake Up. And even though it hasn't a real stand-out track, I like all the songs well enough to be up there. I've listened to the songs quite a lot, and every song about evenly (although none of the songs are currently on my music player, haha.) As for Happy Bivouac, 'Carnival' is the stand-out song for me and I like Funny Bunny and Crazy Sunshine. (Carnival and Funny Bunny are currently on my music player). Although Funny Bunny has been a bit overplayed and Crazy Sunshine does not always hit me. Rush has been a late contender, while Kim Deal and Back Seat Dog has grown a bit old. I never had that click with Last Dinosaur (as much as I had with Sono Mirai Wa Ima). Beautiful Morning is too long-winded for me. I hardly ever listen to 'Our Love and Peace' and 'Happy Bivouac'. Advice is quite alright actually. But maybe, after some revision, I would move Wake Up and My Foot three places down the list, so Please Mr. Lostman, Little Busters and Runners High come first. Yes, that would make more sense. |

As much as I loved Happy Bivouac in the beginning (mostly for the FLCL-ness), it has indeed fallen back quite a bit for me with time as well. Honestly, I love LB-HB as much as the next buster... I still play these albums semi-regularly I suppose. But I consider WI-PML to be much higher quality work overall. Even after all these years, those songs are the ones I cherish most out of all I've heard. White Incarnation has always been just about my favorite pillows album, consistently with Living Field. Kool Spice is a very unique record. PML is such a whole-hearted release. So, that's where my "God-tier" is aimed. |
