Now I'm sure you all know what a bootleg is but I'll explain to those who may not have been exposed to this. A bootleg is an audio or video recording either fanmade or professional of a concert/studio outtake that has not been officially released. So for instance, the upcoming Trial DVD is NOT a bootleg because it is officially released. However, some bands record shows as tests for the official recording, but it remains unreleased to the public. Somehow these can get out and some bastards like to gain profit by illegally selling these for their own gain. That said, in the bootleg community a universal 'sharing' is the practice in that a recording is shared for free so that diehard fans can enjoy the raw experience of a show. Ok that said, does anyone have any/know any good sites for pillows bootlegs? Preferably in lossless? |

I've gotten some fan-recorded bootlegs before. I'm pretty sure that they just stick a cheap recording device into their pocket and record the show, because that's what it sounds like. Not good quality at all, but hardcore fans might want to hear them for the sake of hearing how the songs sound live or hearing new songs before they are released. I remember that it was from a fan bootleg that I heard Sono mirai wa ima for the first time, long before it was released. I don't think any sites that specialize in this exist, and if you find any bootlegs in lossless they will probably sound about as good as a tape recorder in a blender at a rock concert... in lossless. |

Yeah, I must admit it's really rare to find a Soundboard recording / Pro-Shot of a Japanese act unless it's been streamed over the web. |

I've long dreamed of a website dedicated to bootlegs by the pillows. However, there's not as many floating around as some American bands that have large followings, such as Weezer or The Smashing Pumpkins for instance. I actually know of the Sono Mirai wa Ima bootleg Mafu has. Pretty horrible quality, but still interesting none the less. The only real bootlegs I know that are floating around would be a show from 1997 and one from 1999, both typically labeled "Live Beat 19XX". Other random bootlegs I've found: Robotman- 2003 at Nanba Hatch Good Morning Good News Video Killed the Radiostar (cover) Boku wa Kakera- think this is from 1994, and features keyboards Mister Buster Rosy Head Nightmare- this one is from a Tower Records show in 1999 Then there's a few songs from a bootleg at Shibuya AX on 12/15/2005. That was the last day of The Third Eye tour. This might've been recorded from a TV airing, but I can't remember for sure. The songs I have form that show are: Over Amp Slow Down My Foot My Girl The Air Resister Kim Deal Fool on the Planet BackSeat Dog I've got some other even more random ones as well, including a bootleg of the first performance of Proposal at a show during the 2006 American tour. Most of these are crap quality, but some might be interested, and I'd totally be willing to upload some of these if there is interest. Mafu, would you mind giving somewhat a list of the bootlegs you have? I'm curious to see what else you have that's not labeled. I really think it would be awesome if we could make some kind of project to construct a site, or at least a page or blog, for bootlegs. I also have a feeling that there's a lot more floating around the Japanese community, but how to get access to those, I have no idea. But damn, would I love too. |

How and where did you get these bootlegs? Are there more that can be found from the source(s)? 2. Definitely interested in all these bootlegs, if not just for posterity's sake. Especially would love to hear the last two shows you posted. Now regarding that show with Straightener, is that Runners High the "Straightener" version I've heard about? I've been dying to hear that for a while now if so. 3. Do you happen to have any other video performances that have NOT circulated around Youtube, or at least haven't within the last 5 years or so? 4. Definitely interested in any other bootlegs you might have and would love to listen to them. I'd be willing to trade whatever if you'd like. Seriously, I would love to build an archive of all live material by the pillows, bootlegs and official releases both. TV and radio performances too. Also, I have those BGM covers somewhere on a old hard drive. I remember back in like, 2004 or something, listening to Mr Popcorn and Road Movie wondering what the hell I was hearing. It sounds like the pillows were playing at a dive bar and someone was holding a recorder in their inside coat pocket. Ah, memories... ![]() |

That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a live performance by the pillows labeled "Straightener version". I can't remember where I saw it. Maybe the live blog or a different website, but that's how the song was labeled. |

I think I got the full setlist bootlegs from one of those video-sharing sites. It was Veoh or one of those. A guy made an account and uploaded his personal recordings from the pillows' shows and some others. He has since disappeared and his account is gone, so I guess there is no way to get more from the source. It was a few years back, but I pretty sure that's where those came from. I have gotten others by trading with fans. 2. Runners High is "Straightener version". Horie sings the first verse and Yamanaka does the second, then they join together for the "dizzy my future" part. 3. I haven't watched so many pillows videos on Youtube or paid much attention, so I'm not sure what is circulated and what isn't. Is there anything longed after that hasn't been uploaded there? 4. I have some others, but most are single songs or miscellaneous stuff. Don't think I have any other full setlist bootlegs besides what has been previously mentioned. I remember a recording from a radio show that I have of Yamanaka and the dude from Ellegarden singing "Missing". I also have a bunch of radio rips from the "Poison Rock'n'Roll" show and some others. They are mostly talk, so I'm not sure if many people would be interested. I can't think of much off the top of my head. I don't really care about trading. I'm just glad to share with hardcore fans who would appreciate them. (Although... "donations" are kindly accepted if anyone has those Born in the 60's DVDs, Yamanaka's AUTO PILOT cover or something cool.) Yeah, I thought you might have the BGMs since you had the Sono mirai wa ima one. It has always been a small dream of mine to get the actual recordings of those BGMs. Since they were previously recorded and played on the speakers before the show, you know they must have them tucked away somewhere. I especially liked the Nine Miles one and Yamanaka's aiko and Mr.Children covers. Probably just something more that will never see the light of day. ![]() |

It would be really nice if we could put together a site where every known recording is listed along with date recorded, source, and generation. Something similar to this: http://www.livenirvana.com/tourhistory/94/02-21-94.php I've got a lot of stuff to contribute, but probably nothing that other people around the forum don't have. |

I would not mind collaborating with other forum members here to make such a site. It'd be something to actually revitalize this community, and maybe gives us more to discuss as we explore different live versions of our fav songs. |
