Alright. Time for some salt, bad blood, and possible trolling. Consider this the dark side of the 22nd birthday.

What songs do you think are the most overrated? I know the pool of pillows fans we know is fairly small, but we've been bullshitting about their music for more than half a decade now and I think can decide on what songs we find most overrated, least deserving of the praise lavished on them.

So here's my list. Aside from Propose, I actually do like the songs just not as much as others do.

Monochrome Lovers
Native World (sorry, guys, it's good just not top 5/10/even 20 material)
Hybrid Rainbow
(I know I'm gonna get tons of shit for this, but) White Summer, Green Bicycle, Red Hair, Black Guitar

I feel like I'm forgetting something else, so post yours and let's see where we all stand.

1) Please Mr. Lostman.
The album is brilliant- one of their absolute best, hands down. But the title track has just never done it for me. I can't help but feel as though the song is pretty mediocre- especially when compared to the rest of PML. A lot of people on this board seem to love it, which is fine. I've just never seen the appeal, though. Seems pretty overhyped to me.

2) Happy Bivouac.

3) Kono Yo no Hatemade
This one's cited as a fan-favorite all over the place. On one of the other threads, a few people noted that they'd like for the pillows to play this during the next US tour; something that I'm not down with and would try to vote against. I just don't know what anyone else sees in this song; it feels very generic to me, and it marks the begginning of their decline into mediocre territory, IMO.

4) Babylon Tenshi no Uta
See number 3.

5) Pretty much all of My Foot.

6) Our Halley's Comet
I like this song quite a bit, but feel as though it gets a little more attention than it deserves. It's pretty much the only song off of White Incarnation we'll ever have even a remote chance of seeing live, which is a shame, because there are other songs on the album that kick its ass.

I'm sure I'm missing others. I look forward to seeing everyone else's opinions.

Oh, yeah, Halley's Comet should be in my list too.

How is propose overrated? No one ever talks about it and it's not that great a song anyway IMO. Also how is Native World overrated? Some people even argue that its the worst song on Living Field...

I wish I had substantial evidence proving otherwise, but all I remember about the release of Wake Up x3 was everyone ejaculating over Propose. That's the best I can do right now without scumming through the original Wake Up thread (the first few pages of which are ridiculous, btw).

I'd say Native World. Other than that, I honestly don't know. Maybe Ladybird Girl.

That's right. I'm inside myself right now. And all of you guys. How does it feel? Good. I know.

Anyways, as long as someone can justify why they like something as much as they do (if the justification isn't obviously apparent for whatever reason), then I won't fault them for having a certain song as a favorite, even if it isn't mine (I mean, really. At that point, what can you do?). As for the mechanics of large numbers of people liking certain songs... . Just because a certain song gets praise from a high number of people doesn't means that it is overrated, necessarily. I mean, a good song deserves praise. Depending on the circumstances, certain songs may be brought into the spotlight more than others. It doesn't necessarily mean that the greatness of other songs is being detracted from. Sure, public recognition wise, yes. But I believe that we all appreciate the truly great songs.

And of course, as always. There's gonna be the situation where you just don't like something as much as someone else. Or, alternatively, which is the case as of late, the pillows will simply suck, and people will like that anyways for some reason (lolololol).

Am I making sense? Probably not. I'm not Sheer or GR.

Nah, it's all good. I think I submitted and then edited my post without realizing it. I thought that I was just now I was posting. I was like, "how'd he reply so fast to my POST!" lol

EDIT: I think the issue arises when someone perceives the work as undeserving of widespread praise, and someone else doesn't.

For example. I have always loved Native World. I am a little vocal about this love from time to time, and whenever I am, praise is siphoned from the community. Praise that may not have been expressed otherwise (on such a large scale). Now, Native World is a pretty obscure track, so this isn't the best example. But if you disagree with this assessment, then well, here's this thread. lol

I picked that song in particular because I recall I have a history with you as far as disagreement over the quality and worth of Native World goes.
