This wasn't cited, but I just noticed this on Sawao's wikipedia page (I'm currently doing a research project on rock music and I'm gonna fit the pillows in there somewhere).

"...in 2008, Oasis offered the pillows to play an opening performance at their concert in Japan, but the pillows refused their offer..." :shred:

Does anybody recall hearing about this when it happened? I don't remember there being any discussion of it here, and yet it's on the wikipedia page.

that's correct.
i can't find the damn video again on youtube (i have it saved in my itunes),
but he says it in that rock n' roll classroom video, during the 川柳 (comedic haiku).
sawao's haiku is「オアシスのツアーの前座断った♥」
which means, i turned down [the offer for] the opening act of oasis' tour.
i fucking lol'd.

I can't help but see this as another example of Oasis' bigotry. I'm not sure if it really was the case, but why would a band that's older and more experienced open for Oasis in their own country? I would have disagreed just as Sawao did.

Um...not only were both bands formed at approximately the same time, but that wouldn't be particularly uncommon anyway - the age of a band is irrelevant in this respect.

Oasis has sold 70 million records worldwide. And the pillows? Not so much.

Record sales are hardly an accurate judge of artistic talent. Oasis was more popular for the bands infighting between the Gallagher's than it was for its music. Also they formed in 1991.

Or maybe Sawao just thought Oasis sucked.

Just sayin'.

Oasis deserved all the fame and money. Also, the pillows are not famous because they're japanese. A japanese band. See, japanese bands doesn't make much fame outside. Oasis were a British band, a good one. Most of the people don't usually listen to japanese bands. A shame, but it's the truth. Also, good call, Sawao! I'd punch Liam on the face. I think he's an ass.

Except for, you know, those people who live in Japan. The Japanese.

We're not measuring talent; we're measuring billing. So unfortunately, out of your three sentences, none are relevant.

Well, that's why I said outside. the pillows are pretty famous in Japan. But not much outside. Got it? :)

Who's "we"? The only one who made it about billing was you because it suited your arguement. Alucard, whom you quoted in your response, said "older and more experienced", not "the pillows have more record sales". Oasis didn't release their first album untill 1994, and by that point The Pillows had 3 studio albums and two EP's, so i'd say that his statement was accurate.

We're talking exclusively about billing. "We" includes everyone in this discussion. Alucard asked why the "older and more experienced" band would not be billed first. The simple fact of the matter is that the age and experience of a band is completely irrelevant in terms of billing, and my response reflected that. Billing is based exclusively on popularity. A world-famous act will always be billed before a locally-popular act. It's that simple.

Ah, by the way, someone has any idea of when this happened? I'm really curious about it. :D
