 Pillows Mixed CD. BUSTERS UNITE
Hey guys. I'm making a mixed pillows CD for my girlfriend, because she's not too fond of them. Here are some things I know about her tastes:
-She LOVES Number Girl. -Listens to a lot of generic Visual-Kei BS. -Loves Oasis/Radiohead/Pixies/Sonic Youth/Beatles -Hates Hardcore/emo (YESH)
-She LOVES Oasis. Just for the emphasis.
-Is impressed by intricate guitar play/soloing. -Doesn't think much of jazz/blues.
-She says she wants chill, laid back music. Because that's what she's into lately. Not exactly lounge, but nothing with too much driving energy or outright volume.
I was thinking of showing her mostly stuff from PML-HB (obviously, lol). But I also want to throw in some Living Field like songs like Something Like a Romance or Tiny Boat. I even want to try to dig as far back as songs like Lorelai if I can.
Think mellow, crispy pillows. But with a little more of the older bitpop influence in there. That's what I'm going for. Feel free to throw in your own interpretations.
So what's the tracklist looking like for this thing? I'm still trying to come up with something.

Just make her listen to Little Busters, it's got their most blatantly-Oasis-influenced stuff there, I think. Also, if she wants mellow, for the most part, KOOL SPICE (relatively, it's not that the songs are all down-tempo, the feel is just really chill, imo).

Yeah, that was my plan originally. Just PML or Little Busters. But it's hard to do it when I love all of the 90s albums so much... We're talking my favorite albums of all time lined up one after another, lol. But yes, looking at it objectively... LB seems to be the best bet overall. I'll throw in some mellow numbers from other records for good measure.

Ah, I see now. I shouldn't have said "fond of". More like, she knows of them, but hasn't really listened to any of their stuff. My bad. She's really interested in the pillows' music from what I've told her, and she's expecting a lot. I just don't want to disappoint. the pillows have a lot of great music, so it's hard to choose.

Don't forget White Incarnation! Chill music, but with that Britpop influence that's so characteristic of early pillows. As for specific recommendations...well, it probably goes without saying that you're familiar with the album, but maybe something like Kanojou wa Sister? Ki ni Shitenai yo? You know, stuff like that.

Hard agree with Mare's first point - just give her LB to HB. It's a proven formula - it worked for most of us.
Not sure anyone is going to like KS right off the bat, though.

I wonder if it's weird that most of my own Mixtape would consist of Post-LB material? I suppose it's just because i've heard the rest so many times and am re-discovering their early work. Shit... The Killing Field Monochrome Lovers Bye Bye Sweet Pain Daydream Wonder Sunday Happy Slave Naked Shuffle Our Halley's Comet 90's My Life Swinger's Night Club Ice Pick Powerhouse Lineup.

Well crap, if she loves The Beatles, Oasis, and the Pixies, then she's bound to love the pillows. One Life and Back Seat Dog would be musts. If you're going for "chill", I'd strongly consider putting on Lesser Hamster in Blue and I Want to Live Like That.
