Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
Let's look at this hypothetical situation.
"Man, Thank You My Twilight has some great tracks"
"Yea, but it has a few throw away songs like Rookie Jet and Winona, though... I guess it's not as bad as Good Dreams"
Good Dreams always winds up at the end of those "I guess it's not as bad as" lines, and i've never been able to figure out why. I always hear that people attribute it to thier least favourite period in The Pillows' timeline. Of course you always get people who disagree on songs, albums, etc. but Good Dreams seems to get universally panned.
I just don't get it, and I would really like someone to explain it to me. I mean, how can you not like Sono Mirai wa Ima, which gave us one of the most energetic live performances by The Pillows? Now, technicaly, Sono Mirai wa Ima was released 1 month before Good Dreams as a single, however, I don't think it garnered enough popularity in that short amount of time that people would reconize it seperatly from Good Dreams. I think when most people talk about the song they're referring to the album and not the single. (I could be wrong however)
Or how about Walkin' on the Spiral and You Stood There, Like an Angel? Spiral, wa Ima, and Angel are really energetic tracks that are a ton of fun to listen to. (and play)
Or New Year's Eve?(Which is one of my favourites) Of course, the album titled track Good Dreams, along with Xavier and Orange Film Garden are also great. The album has a couple weak links, sure, Bad Dreams is probably the only song i'll single out of thier entire discography as downright hating, and Rosy Head, Frontiers, and Lo-fi Boy, Fighter Girl are all incredibly average.
Is it possible that part of the stigma stems from the fact it was released after Turn Back? I don't want this to turn into a debate, because i'm not going to convince anyone that it's amazing and noone is going to convince me that it's terrible, I just want someone to explain how it can be seen as part of The Pillows' "dark days".

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
I'm sorry, did you just call Lo-fi Boy AND Frontiers "average"? Would that all songs could be so average!

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
I find most of Good Dreams to be excellent. However, I have to admit, it took me a while to get into the album because it got such a bad rep from the beginning.
I don't want this to turn into a debate,
I'm afraid it just did. Well, just replace Good Dreams with OOPARTS. I think Good Dreams has a better image, than it had ever before.

Lo-Fi Boy isn't one of my favorites, but Good Dreams as a whole is a pretty fantastic album. My only real complaint is that there isn't enough of it: it's a really short album. And yeah, Frontiers is amazing.
It's also the last pillows album I really liked as an actual album, rather than just picking one or two songs from it that were worth listening to.

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
Frontiers and Lofi boy are two of the best songs on the album.
I think the problem is that there are a few songs that are pretty, well, below average. And one that is just abysmal: Bad Dreams. I can't believe Sawao even considered putting bad dreams on an album.
Other than that, Sono mirai and the title track and both excellent, and frontiers is also great.
BY THE WAY, I HAVE GOOD DREAMS AUTOGRAPHED BY THE ENTIRE BAND, INCLUDING JUN. SO I DON'T HATE IT. (though this was from back in 2005 when it was their newest album...)

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
Wow, I just came here to make a thread about Good Dreams and I already find one. Talk about coincidence.
Anyway, only until a few days ago Good Dreams was probably the pillows album I had least listened to, therefore I didn't rate it that much. But just listening to the whole thing on my iPod one day on a bus blew me away. This album is really, but I mean really good. It gets great especially after track #4. I'm not someone who goes mad over Sono Mirai Wa Ima. I mean it's a really catchy tune and all, but it sounds fare and square a copycat of Last Dinosaur. Walkin' On The Spiral is above average, and Tenshi Mitai I don't care much about. That said, the rest is just pure win, especially Frontiers, which gets my favorite-track-of-the-album blessing.

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
I will never, ever get the "sono mirai = last dinosaur" thing. Seriously, if anything, Century Creepers is the most Last Dinosaur-esque song they've made by far. Sono Mirai is just NOTHING like it, and anybody who insists otherwise is just dull in the head.

To say that "Sono Mirai" is a copy of "Last Dinosaur" is equally as silly as saying that they bear no resemblance to each other. However, mark my words, both statements are extraordinarily senseless.

You know what I mean; there is absolutely no MEANINGFUL similarity to the two such that one could say that they are "just like" each other or that one is a "copy/knock-off/remake/whatever other dumb thing you wish to claim," or even to say that they are quite similar.

Now I really don't know what you mean. However, the objective fact is that both songs are similar, but they are not the same song. The end.

Re: Does Good Dreams Bring Bad Dreams?
The "winona as a throwaway song" was a refrence to the Thank You My Twilight thread, I don't actaully hate it.
I was being serious when I said Bad Dreams is the only Pillows song I downright hate and refuse to listen to. For the rest of thier discography it's more of a "which songs are amazing and which songs are just OK" thing.
Frontiers IS catchy, I just listened to it again after reading some responses, but I stand firm that lo-fi and rosy head are just average. Neither of them evoke any special memories for me and I don't start rocking out when it comes up on Shuffle. They're just forgettable IMO.
