Now, I don't mean what years do you think The Pillows we're at thier best, I mean what time during thier career did you get into them? Have you been there from the beginning when The Pillows we're still rocking with Kenji Ueda? Or are you only recently familiar with them.

For me, it was right during thier Little Busters - Runners High - Happy Bivouac years. So about 98' to 99'. I listened to thier music from then on, but it wasen't untill much later that I wen't back and discovered much of thier earlier work, which I instantly loved.

(Don't read the first 3 alinea's they're a bit off-topic, just start at the end if you don't want to waste your time)

Well, I kinda got into them by accident. It was when I had a pc-game called frets on fire (my nephew recommended it). I downloaded a few Naruto songs, but it went with a pack containing some other Japanese songs from animes. It also happened that there were two songs or so of the pillows (Hybrid Rainbow and Walking on The Spiral I recall) At first It didn't really hit me, well they were nice songs, but that was all there was to say.

Than I played it some more, and my nephew said: this song is not so bad, actually. From that point on, I recongnized that they were indeed "not so bad". I went to Imeem, and played a tracklist of the pillows.
I immediately liked the sound of the pillows, I enjoyed Gazelle City in particular. So, I tried to get some songs as mp3 . . .
and then I had found a torrent with almost their full discography!

I was really overwhelmed because, there were so many songs of them.
Here the trouble started. I had to listen to all those songs .. .and I had to
decide if I liked it or not. If I liked it, it went in a special map.
It was a heck of a job to sort everything out, and it was difficult to judge the song
after only one listen. So I ended up, listening all their song (sometimes twice), album after album.
First I began with My Foot, because I liked Gazelle City and it was their latest album,
so I was planning to work my way out, from the newest to oldest album.
(But didn't really do that, and I almost picked randomly an album)

I think my Golden Years should be My Foot and White Incarnation, because I started with those albums and I've listened the most to those songs. Although, I just listened to almost all their albums at the same time, or quick after each other, so it's a bit blurry. And I just keep finding undiscovered, passed songs at the same time I began listening to Pied Piper.

when I first listened to songs by them in my usual rotation was 2002, But the when I really got into em and started doing research and digging up alot of their music, was 2004. First CD of theirs I got was Sono Mirai Wa Ima. first album Good Dreams. I usually get a band's newest stuff first and work my way back.

Good dreams has alot of memories attached to it. :groovin:

I first got into their music when I listened to Living field with my cousin, although I didn't know who the band was at the time. But then I heard the pillows' music later in '99 when Little busters came out, and I learned it was the same band.

After that, FLCL premiered on adult swim, and from then I began a lengthy and thorough exploration of their discography.

I can't really say, as it's been only a year since I got into them, not to mention I still have to listen to a few more albums. But if I were to point out a period of "Golden Years", that would be 1995-1999. During that period The Pillows released pretty much the cream of the crop of their musical career.

Is this thread even necessary? Nearly everyone discovered the pillows because of FLCL. So most likely it will be the lostman - little busters era.

I may be wrong :) I mean I shouldn't really be speaking for everyone :)

I got into them in 2006, when I downloaded Fool on the Planet after hearing recommendations. It's been true love ever since.

At what point in their career did I get into the pillows? Uh…very late, to say the least. As in, late 2007/early 2008. Even then, it wasn't until this summer that I started branching out and actually discovering the rest of their discography (up until then, my pillows library consisted of Living Field, Kool Spice, and a few scattered songs from various other albums).

As a matter of fact, I've seen a few episodes of FLCL, but that was after I became aware of the pillows' music. =O

From Please Mr. Lostman to Little Busters, or 1997-1999.
Is this thread even necessary? Nearly everyone discovered the pillows because of FLCL. So most likely it will be the lostman - little busters era.

True, but I would tend to agree with you. But it looks like we're both wrong in that aspect.

Yeaahhhh, me too. It was the first album I got. I'll always love that album. :groovin:

I like almost every track on Good Dreams, it's one of my favourite albums. I'll never understand why people don't like it.

I think it's obvious that their "golden years" are when they were still playing with Estelle Getty.

I mean, they won the Emmy for best comedy that year... pretty impressive for a Japanese rock band, don't you think?

I discovered them between My Foot and Wake Up! I saw them through Beck. They saved my life on the 14 hour flight from Hong Kong, so I love them.
