So you'll stop it
EXPERIMENTING.
E-X-P-E-R-I-M-E-N-T-I-N-G.
Thank You, My Twilight was The Pillows' experiment with electronic sounds placed throughout the duration of their songs. The fans recieved it all very well and so Penalty Life is full of strange noises (See: Phantom Pain, it's a great song, albeit rather wierd). They aren't becoming electronica or anything, just messing around with that and other genres of music so their music doesn't become stale.
Dead Stock Paradise reminds me of what O.P. King is doing right now.
VERY RETRO.
Yeah Culen wrote that about Penalty Life. So stop calling people Culenish for not liking new stuff.

Yes, it does. I'm sure Culen wouldn't just hate an album or song because everyone else likes it.
I remember back when Planet Pillows was still active and Penalty Life had been released not so long ago. I was always one of the people that enjoyed the album. Culen didn't like it by that time.
And of course I understand that PML is his preferred Pillows style and not PL. But I also love PML's style the most. Please Mr. Lostman, Strange Chameleon, and Swanky Street will always be my top songs. But I still enjoyed songs like: MY FOOT, OVER AMP, Third eye, Terminal Heaven's Rock, and Sono Mirai wa Ima.
I think what people are trying to say, is that the majority of the people's opinions are becoming eerily similar to Culen's. Loving Pre-Runner's High and hating Post-Little Busters. Whether the answer lies on the complexity of the music, technical skill, level of pop is irrelevant. People like different things. To some it may sound like total shit, but other treasure it.

He liked it then, he just stopped liking it? For no reason... cause he realized they were crappy or something? That doesn't really make sense.

No one but Culen knows why he doesnt like them. I'm sure it has something to do with Sawao's "cute" voice. It would really seem stupid to dislike something just because it catches on. You don't see Culen hating PML now that its getting really famous in the inner circles do you?
I'm sure the voice is only one thing he disliked after a while. You have to remember that a person's musical tastes also change. Maybe the guitars didn't work so well for him. Or something just didn't click after a while.

I guess but now he says everything pre-RH, I know he liked all that stuff before. That's alot of style changes that he decided not to like. After he had already accepted them.

I really understand what you're saying. Trust me.
But there is this subtle similarity between all their previous works, similar to their newest works. Nonfiction and Third eye have this subtle similarity which is hard to explain.
TYMT was a sort of steppingstone to the new Pillows style. It led the way for Penalty Life all the way to MY FOOT. It was a drastic change from the sound of PML. While albums like HB and RH slowly led to the "stepping stone". Penalty Life was the the beggining of the series that used the current pop style that the pillows are using.
All the other albums have this jazzy and plain rock sound while also containing much less pop than the new works.

There are actually a few songs off of Penalty Life I can handle. Unlike the insipid Good Dreams, some songs on PL are at least tolerable. It's just the ones I don't like, I really hate. Which makes the album lose points.
I don't think the band is on an unreversable downward spiral. My Foot had several songs that made a lasting impression on me, but I think it's strange that nobody gives Turn Back any credit; I would say this was the best they've done since TYMT.

At least I understand Culen's division, I can think of someone not liking RH compared to LB for example. But I can't get how someone loves TYMT and totally hate PL and GD. Anyway for me is kinda difficult to split up their work, the biggest one is up to living field, and after that, as the band itself seems to use it.

Probably because they were old songs.
