I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but does anybody have Kool Spice in high quality? The files I have are lossy and sound rather crap, especially on headphones.

If I were at school where all my stuff is, I could rip it for you. Somebody here is sure to own the actual album. Since I tend not to rip high quality for myself, the rip on my comp is only 128kbps, but if that would be good enough for you I can up it.

128kbps should be good enough for anyone. Yes, a lot of us can tell the difference, but that difference doesn't really change anything important.

I should probably do my full discography upload again sometime.

Yeah, there really needs to be a massive torrent on the interwebz that has all the pillows albums at like 320 kbps or better yet, FLAC.

I have a really high quality sound system, and it would be awesome to listen to the pillows through them in pristine quality.

Well, I've been working with audio for over 3 years now, and I can tell there really is a difference between 128 and 320. A lot of the intricacy in tracks are brought out more. Sure 128 is still tolerable, but I like to listen to files in as much as a lossless format as I can.

The question is not how much intricacy is lost, but rather how much important intricacy is lost. You're not going to miss out on an entire instrument track because you're listening to 128kbps instead of FLAC.

I'm a quality sucker, therefore I loathe anything below 192 kbps. It's extremely easy to tell the difference between 128 and 192, let alone 320. I've been searching everywhere on the net, and there seems to be only two versions of Kool Spice: one of 128 (the one _KeitarO_linked) and another of 192, but which is only the previous one converted in 192 kbps (that makes it sound even worse). If anybody has a genuine copy of 192 or higher, please let me know.

Like I said, yes - you can tell there is a difference, but what difference? If you really think you're missing out on important things, the problem is entirely in your head. You may notice an occasional artifact here and there, but unless you are doing absolutely nothing but listening to music with $500 headphones in a sound-free environment, it really makes no difference. The only major difference is the amount of space that is being taken on your hard disk.

I would say that 128kbps is the maximum that anyone ought to be allowed to complain about, because once you hit 192kbps, any further dissection becomes ludicrous. The only legitimate use of a lossless audio codec is if you are going to convert or process the audio. Or if you feel you have too much hard disk capacity and want to pretend you're somehow elite.

Edit: It's like when photographers get their panties in a bunch whenever someone shoots high-quality JPEG instead of raw. It's a completely and utterly senseless criticism.

I'm sharing the entire discography, and most of the dvds, on soulseek. I am also willing to send them over AIM or MSN. If anyone needs anything, just PM!

128kbps isn't good enough even for casual listening. Listen to the crash cymbals. They sound terrible.

The artifacts become much more apparent when OOPSing, which I've done to most of the pillows' discography just for fun. DO IT. Use this Winamp plugin:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ind ... opic=17450
The plugin helps you tab songs because it removes the center sound from the sides and vice versa.

@Revol: I've seen Kool Spice in WAV on SoulSeek but I'm not sure if it was lossless.
