Post Who plays the bass?
I've always wondered, considering they don't have a bass player, who plays bass in the studio recordings?

The person who currently plays bass for the pillows is Jun Suzuki

-taken from pirouzu's main site-
jun suzuki
bass
born 7/18/1968 chiba prefecture.

he is considered a guest bassist out of respect to the original members, though he has performed with them since 1999. formerly of the chewing gum weekend. does solo recording work as fragments. also moonlights as a DJ. he makes his first appearance in a music video in 'terminal heaven's rock' (a rarity for a bassist).
There were two bassist before him, Kenji Ueda and Tatsuya Kashima

Jun plays with them live too, but he's always in the back where the light doesn't show him

They do have a bass player: Jun Suzuki.

He's been playing with them since 1999.

Before that, it was Tatsuya Kashima, who start with the band in 1993.

Then, the original bassist Kenji Ueda, who was with them of course in 1989-1993.

Oh, I thought Kashima and Suzuki were only live bass players. No idea they played on the records as well. Thanks for the info.

Yep!

The articles the pillows history that state that the pillows use "random studio bassists" or "whoever they could come by" in their recordings are completely skewed and wrong. It's the impression that a lot of people get because of it.

But they've only had three bassist their entire history.
