 coming back to the pillows
so, it's been quite a long, long time since i've posted here. i was never an avid poster, but i was an avid reader. i've gone through a huge phase with other bands, been to a lot of concerts, and in my first year of college, left the pillows behind, so to speak. so, while i'm still staying at uni and working, i've got some free time again, and in the shufflings of my music library i've found the pillows again. it brings me back to high school... watching FLCL and finding out about them, discovering their extensive discography... seeing them in the knitting factory. all the new stuff coming out is exciting, and while i don't find myself catching on to the new music as much, listening through Little Busters or Living Field can still send me back to a simpler place in my brain. i caught myself browsing rinkya and ebay and amazon, looking for cheap pillows stuff... i'm seriously considering buying the Bubbletown's Happy Zoo DVD, if I can find one. i haven't thought that since at least a year ago. i really don't have a lot to say with this post. has anyone else gone through something similar? i was really, really tight with the pillows' music a few years ago and returning to it is like coming back to somewhere nostalgic. my life has changed a lot since i've moved out and now this reminds me of back then.

Re: coming back to the pillows
No, its not really the same for a lot of us. Growing up has its ways of making life feel weird, nostalgic and depressive. I miss the old days where I would stay up all night to re-watch FLCL and listen to the pillows that way. Later I finally got a chance to get a CD and from there on, they were no doubt my favorite band and still are. I never left them, and I never stop listening to them. But I feel like change is the only thing that will happen and we won't like it. Things have changed for me ever since High School, and I regret so much, but in the end, I can't do anything about it. I could only hope for the future. I'm glad you came back to the pillows, they are without a doubt one of the most artistic, talented, and classy bands of our generation. EDIT* Also, get the Hello welcome to bubbletowns happy zoo DVD from HMV (They have a translated page) It will be a great investment, it is one of their best performances. I still get chills down my spine when I watch it

You picked a great time to come back. Lots of new content is coming on the horizon.

Re: coming back to the pillows
I've always thought it would be wonderful to come back to the pillows after ignoring them for a few years, but I've never wanted to stop listening to them long enough for that to happen. While I'm extremely out of touch with virtually everything they've done since Wake Up!x3, I still listen to their older music all the time.

Re: coming back to the pillows
I'm listening to please mr. lostman for the first time in years, and it reminded me of this site. so i checked to see if it was still alive, and i find this topic haha.
it's so odd feeling out of sync with this album. i used to know it so well, and now i find myself surprised by the songs again.

Re: coming back to the pillows
I actually listen to them less now, but they remain a band by which I judge all others. They are also the only band which I have followed for such an extended period of time( 6 years at this point).
The music sounds much better when you take a break from it though, like you said. That's when it comes back to surprise you.

Re: coming back to the pillows
I have to agree with a.fish on this one. I took a brief break from the pillows over the spring/early summer, and when I came back to all the tracks I picked out something that I havent listened to/not frequently listened to and it gave me that discovery feeling again.
It wont, however, top the time first came back. My first time listening to the pillows was one summer back in 03, and i had a random assortment of songs like hybrid rainbow, over amp, come down, etc. When I rediscovered them in 06 I about shat my pants.

Re: coming back to the pillows
Sorry to bump an older thread but I haven't been here in ages either and this seemed like an appropriate thread for me to make my return post in.
With that said, I still think the pillows are one of the best alt rock bands ever, so raeh, rawk on people, rawk on.
