If only he would have listened to his own advice and played songs from their first album in the US tour. If they played razorlike blue or energy my life would be fulfilled.

Nice little interview.
If they come back for a fourth US tour, I wonder if we'll actually get some older/newer stuff...

I agree.
They always tell people here to listen to the old stuff, but they don't even play stuff from PML here, xD.

Wow, I'm pleasently surprised he said "our first album" instead of the latest one. Don't know if that means Pantomime or Moon Gold, but whichever one it is, more people should listen to them. Then maybe we can hear something like Ame ni Uteba next time.
Not really... that's what they said in their interview with Anime Insider about 3 years ago, and still they haven't played any other songs other than FLCL or PL, or MF-NA. They don't even play stuff from Smile or Thank You, My Twilight. Just FLCL, Penalty Life (occasionally), My Foot, Wake Up!, and the latest stuff. I don't know if Sawao intends to perform anything else for us... they'll probably just build on the new stuff...

(doubt it... *sigh*) i mean, weren't we thinking (hoping) that this past time..? i guess sawao could change his mind in the next 239480329840298 years before the next US tour. (if we get one.) IMO, as soon as we start talking like "hey, sawao actually sounds like he's ready to play some older stuff for us! i'm so pumped!" our high hopes come crashing down.. but we can dream i think it's time we all move to japan...

Re: NEW YORK-TOKYO interview with the pillows
I bet Singing in the Rain would sound AWESOME now, if they played it live. Think of Sawao's tone... OMG I'd die.

Re: NEW YORK-TOKYO interview with the pillows
Isn't the general consensus that Sawao's "tone" has been on the decline ever since like....TYMT?

No GR, I think you're confusing the "general" consensus with "your" consensus.
It's not as good as it used to be, granted, but it's good enough. I mean look at the latest live from Wednesday. Kickass.

Re: NEW YORK-TOKYO interview with the pillows
We should confirm what we're referring to - I'm talking about vocal tone - are you talking about his guitar's tone? On one hand, I see how it'd be cool to see old songs revisited with their newer pop ROCK sound. But recent live shows (like that performance of New Animal, some other Scarecrow lives..) have shown Sawao's vocals (out of studio) are sort of...well, they're not as "pure" sounding as they once were. He's sort of all over the place in some songs (the 916 DVD has a handful of cases like this), sometimes the notes in Scarecrow's chorus are a little too high for him. Sometimes he just sounds careless.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy his singing, and some "decay" is expected as they're growing older...but you gotta admit. I mean, just listen to the chorus of One Life from LB. Or Shiroi. The recorded material has stayed pretty solid, but a lot of live stuff is getting pretty...rough, in terms of vocals.
Again, it's not a flame. But does anyone feel the same way? I'm sure we've talked about this before...
And if you simply mean a rerecording of something like Razorlike Blue, of course I'm all for it. And if they played Razorlike Blue live, I'm sure I'd love it. Point still stands though.

Re: NEW YORK-TOKYO interview with the pillows
his voice is always different, but it's always sawao. in the 916 dvd it's actually pretty good, but it's kinda nasaly, you know? (not that i mind) and then around scarecrow's release, it sounded pretty damn good... 97 live is freaking amazing.. 99 too to me, it always sounds good. it's that live feeling, that flare sawao always gives it, that i love. i find i'm always happy with whatever music they put out, whatever they sound like in their lives-- the only time i start to second guess myself is when i come on the forum and see people burning them really hard on everything. when the general consensus is negative on IM i become paranoid that the opinion is the same in japan and the ridiculous notion pops up in the back of my mind that they'll stop making music or something... (i know, it's dumb ~~plus god knows japan loves their pop music... and VK) i dunno, i just get some frustrated feeling like, "grr! why don't they like it!?!?" i just want everyone to be happy. YAY FOR NEW ANIMAL! everybody happy! (and as previously noted- the recent love for PL is reassuring) i'll shut up now.

Also, for the record: Mr Droopy is in my top 10 pillows tracks, so I'm not hatin'.
